Search for gearmotors or conveyor motor or conveyor drive.

Used in chain / belt conveyors and the like. Often 3ph, but smaller ones are often single phase. The gearboxes are usually anything from 10:1 to 20:1, so you need to look at the motor speed plate and see where you'll be.

You'll probably have to go down the inverter route for something that low in rpm. Or use belts and pulleys to gear it down.

I am going to make an auto rim polisher,

so I need one motor to rotate the rim, one to drive the polish mop[that's the easy bit] and I need a third to rig up some kind of rotating yoke to traverse the polish mop. simply really.

Parvalux make a range of motor gearbox combinations. This is just one example http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ac-geared-motors/0717893/

Yeah, I'd totally recommend using a gearbox to get to anything in a 100-300rpm window, then using a chain or vee belt to get the final ratio adjusted to where you think you want to be, as you will likely want to play with the speed at some point.

If you try chaining down from the speed of the motor, it will make a heck of a racket and be a pain to keep lubricated, and you will need two stages or an oversized pulley to get it done. By contrast, Gearboxes are quiet and trouble free.
I also would not use a toothed or multi-vee belt, as it is easy to jut get a standard pitch chainwheel of a different tooth count, or different sized vee pulley from a local bearing distributor. The others, are not quite as easily available.

If you can put a VFD on it, great, but if you run at less than 60% of the motors rated speed continuously, you might want to put an additional fan blowing air over the motor to keep it cool as the standard motor fan is turning too slowly to remove the heat. Same with overspeeding - much more than 40% overspeed, and your fan may come apart, or bad things happen with the rotor. Both are best avoided lol.
