Im trying to find out what's the best material to get some hammers made in. As snap on no longer make they're radius hammers.

Mild steel. By the time its forged it will be hard and strong, it can even be case hardened and tempered if necessary I seriously doubt it! |

Thanks Paul, I think we're getting them milled. Would a harder material be better for making them from a block?

I think Id still go for mild steel tbh. Ive never known of a hammer that you cant dress up with a file so theyre nothing special I seriously doubt it! |

If you are going to the effort of machining them, why not make them from tool steel. Something like S-2, S7 or L6 are as good as you can get, alternatively D2 is not a bad choice. On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:
