Right I'm getting some soft compound Hoosier 10 inch slicks for the start of the sprint season so within the next few months.

I rang up and there around £150 plus Vat a tyre, now there's various different heights and widths they do and that can be sorted out if anyone is interested.

They said they can sort some discount out if 10 tyres are ordered to what extent in not sure if yet.

So is anyone remotely interested?

Only interested in Avons I'm afraid. Hoosiers are too hefty for my car

I found the Hoosiers poor for sprinting in a Mini. I went seconds faster on Avons.

Avon do a nice stiff 4-ply for the front and 2-ply for the rear. which works very well with the mini weight distribution.

But I don't think Avon do a 10" that's suitable anymore. Hence why I have 13" wheels.

Avon don't do a soft slick for sprinting to my knowledge like you say will.

And since I'm on 10's Hoosiers is pretty much the option.

Just thought if anyone else wanted some then we could all get a deal?

Are you talking to Hoosier direct or a supplier? Either way, i'd be interested if it was 13" Avons only but i havent heard or anyone offering group buy discounts on Avons

I've not spoke to Avon because they don't do a sprint slick in 10 inch to my knowledge. And it'd be pointless myself organising a group buy for 13 inch Avon slicks? Because I run 10 inch

I rang up Hoosier UK direct

Avons do a 16 'profile' where as Hoosiers are 18 iirc?? Im after short tyres for the Metro so the Avons are the only ones that fit the bill. They claim on their website they will do them in all compounds but ive not had a chance to make a proper inquiry yet.

We have looked into the various 10" tyre options for our Formula Student car as it runs 10" wheels. We found the Avon compound much too hard for our liking, and the hoosiers came in two compounds that were good for us, the LC0 and R25b, can't remember which is which, but we switched to the slightly harder compound as we found it was quicker once warmed up, we might have some old worn tyres kicking about if anyone is interested in them

We have at least a single tyre, if I remember correctly there was only one compound available in the 16" OD tyre, but they said they could make other compounds, but the first 50 tyres they make will be scrap but we would have had to pay for them, so we said no.
I will have a look today to see if I can found out what compound we tested.

I run Avon compound A15 on the front and A92 on the rear. This works well for hills but they overheat pretty quickly on very abrasive sprint circuits if pushing very hard

The R25 is the soft compound Hoosier, yes they do a 18 profile which I believe is what most people go for!

For sprinting near enough everyone uses Hoosier slicks on 10 inch and if people are running 13's they run avons.

Whats the logic behind wider rears? or is 8" the max you can go on the front?

Is there a combination that would suit trackdays, sprints and hillclimbs on a completely amateur level? Id have a set, but am baffled by all the different options.

A proper soft hillclimb slick will be too soft for a track day, so if you wanted only one set of slicks then you'd have to have something suitable for tracks and compromised for speed events.

However, assuming you have a road car then your best bet is a decent 'road legal slick'. There's no point putting slicks on a road car for hillclimbing, the regs don't make it that easy.

The yokohama A048R softs are probibly the best road tyre for the track. The A048R mediums i think are a bit too hard for the mini. They have a very low wear index and are rated as a wet grip 'A' all other similar tyres have a wet grip 'B' rating.

Hoosiers are hopeless for a sprint/hillclimb car. Way to much flex in tbe side wall that doesnt suit fast cornering. If you want loads of grip in a straight line then they are brilliant.

look at Dunlop uncut wets to keep your 10's. A much better option than Hoosiers.......i have used Hoosiers a few years ago, i think i ended up giving them to Carl.
