Been offered a tax exempt clubby estate... the idea of my turbo motor transplanted into a innocent looking archless clubby estate on 10's in blaze orange or applejack green or poo brown is really appealing to me.. but i would like to go down the lightweight route still.. now does anyone know the weight of an estate shell? People would think its heavier cos its longer BUT they dont have rear bulkead etc so could it be the same or maybe even less than a saloon?

I would imagine the glass is quite heavy. I know my estate never felt as nimble as a saloon.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Clubman estates must be hard to find now? If the shell is restorable, and a fair price, then go for it. You may not get another chance.

Probably not a great deal in the weight, but may be harder to get lightweight back doors /roof / roll-cage, (depending on how extreme you were thinking).

There go Dave, look towards the bottom of the chart where it says bodyshell data and you'll see the weights in lbs...

The estate/van is lighter by about 15lbs...

It's all about the estate!! *happy*

I'd say that is down to the extra wheel base.

i did like the van i had

think in the book i have it says vans and estates are lighter than saloons

im sure if you had good metal working skills similar skills to someone on this forum you could make most of it from aluminum and have a nice light weight stealth turbo mini

I have a clubman estate and have dreams about making it extremely light with a supercharged lump.

Longer wheelbase is better for the drag strip, too.

They do handle better, but the back end flexes like crazy.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
