Anybody had any experience with removing excess weight from CV's and standard driveshafts. I'm only going to be putting 110ft/lb through them, as none turbo. I've heard CV's can be lightened, but how? I'd like some Ti driveshafts but Carls no longer selling them as the materials is proving too hard & expensive to get hold off.

Is this a service you can still offer Carl? What's involved and what's the best CV's to use?

I know Carl drilled a hole up the centre of the cvs to remove the non hardened metal years ago but if youre doing any kind of road or circuit driving Id say its not a good idea.
Tbh Im really getting a bit concerned about all this lightening stuff, im worried there are gonna be a load of unsafe cars out there, sure killing ourselves is one thing but what about the other road users?

I seriously doubt it!

Don't worry Paul, I'll only do things if I'm 100% sure it's safe, especially around suspension, brakes and running gear.

leeds/wakefield.

ul the weakest part of disk brake cv is the threaded ends, as seen on circuit minis snapping off.
we have done numerous track days in the Don over the years, I didn't just remove material willy nilly but had a good look at where material is within the body and I have no reservations on the finished parts integrity as its my arse on the line if it breaks, which it won't . or o hope it doesn't,lol
yes I can do this Matt,

I have a working drawing [ok a sketch] for the turning mods

gun drilling the shafts would remove some weight and usually improves strength

Although not sure what size of hole you'd be going for.

It must be 10+ years ago you told me that you'd drilled your cvs Carl and I know you havent had a problem with them. Im more concerned about them on the road with pot holes ane kurbs

I seriously doubt it!
