Hello everyone,

Been lurking on here for ages but have never actually posted any photos of my own build. I do have ad thread over on the other forum but we all know how boring that is!

Bit of an overview, I've been working on this on and off for 3 years now and it now looks somewhat like a car again. Fair amount of mods, some of which I regret but hey ho! There done now so ill just deal with it till I build another shell eventually.

Short spec list:-

Shell

Cut rear valance
Ally boot floor
Ally rear bulkhead
Ally parcel shelf
Tubbed and turreted arches
Rear strut brace
Sill exit exhaust tunnels
Full weld in roll cage
No crossmember
Weld in seat rails
Miglia bulkhead
No inner wings (cut for flip front)
Carbon a panels (Steve w)
Carbon roof
Fibreglass front

And it's deseamed! Worst choice I've made so far!!!

Subframes/suspension

Force racing steel beam
Lightened radius arms (standard)
Lightened minifin drums
Alloy rear flanges
Spax coilovers
Drilled front subframe with gussets
Standard front arms and hubs for now

Minispeed alloy 7.9" vented brakes
Willwood bias pedal box and cylinders

Engine (Your normal 998 turbo really)

998 +0.020
940 head (26cc) mild porting
8.6-1 compression
Cinq radiator
Mazda MPV intercooler
Ally plenum
Metro turbo challenge carb
Metro manifold with t2

Same old shit lets be honest, will run 10psi until I upgrade the 'box for a suitable unit.

Here's some of the most recent photos but feel free to look at my photobucket

Any comments or critique welcome!!

Ben

Cheers guys!

Alaska it's a Fiat cinquecento rad off eBay, £24 IIRC
I'll be swapping it for an alloy rad with the top outlet facing upwards though, eventually

Sub 600kg would be nice, but there's lots left to come out of it as far as the front and rear suspension goes. Currently working on a near engine and gearbox casing as a side project to see what weight I can get out of them

Swansea boyo!

Glad you kept the roof gutters at least! The guy I got my cylinder head from completely deseamed a 1275gt, broke my heart! Your engine bay is looking neat so far! What colour *happy*?

Cheer Si *wink*

Yeah shauna the roof gutters were always going to stay, don't think they suit it without the roof gutter (unless it's a minus)

I'm looking at either telecom grey or flannelette grey. Nice flat colour to keep it subtle and set off the CF

Looks good, Reminds me alot of what mine looked like when i was building it!

Would you mind measuring your rad? Im looking for something to fit in the metro thats a bit bigger than standard and looks like it might fit. Thickness would be interesting too!

Got the measurements for slater, but thought I'd put them on here as it may help others

Any questions feel free to ask or PM me.

As for the mini, sorted the alternator mounts out today and that was about it! Poor show really

Top bracket with built in spacer, lower mount is the standard item modified slightly.

So I've not had much time to work on the mini between getting ready for my year away (working for extra cash etc)

The past week I had a bit of time to mess with some more fabrication.

I've now sorted the internal gear linkage, steering column and mount is well underway and I've figured out the positioning for all of my switches and dials.

Few photos for everyone...

Here's showing the position of some of the more important switches

And then some more lists and diagrams etc

The majority of other switches are to be mounted on the upper bar of the rollcage (roof bar) which are within easy reaching distance.

I'm hoping to keep the dash very simple but yet still with a nice race style.

Enjoy!

So seeing as I'm sat in a hostel some 6000 miles away I figured I'd put he last update on here (until june)

Spent my last few days at home tidying up the workshop and making sure the mini was nice and secure, clean and rust free. I'm hoping I've done enough to stop it deteriorating while I'm away but we shall see how it all works out.

So here's one last photo for you guys until I arrive home next year.

see you all soon.

Deseamed doesnt always look bad if youve done a good job of it. Nice project

I seriously doubt it!

So I've arrived home after my travels and the next morning I decided to go check out the shell, surprisingly everything looks almost as it was so I'm more than happy.

Once I'd written out a rough to do list, I decided I'd mess with a small project while I was there.
Shortly later and my steering column was finished. Next job is a new dash bar and finish the column mount. Then I'll be looking at paint and fitting some panels.

Look forward to a few more updates over the next few weeks

Ben
