Twin Cam Turbo Build In Progress Rothwell, Northants

Hi Guys,

I'm about to start a twin cam build and thought what the hell I'll turbo it too :)
I'm currently sourcing parts for the build and have a dilema. I was going to buy the RS type cams for the K1100 head that I have but I have just read that somebody is trying to source some LT type cams for the twin cam turbo build. The RS cams offer 284 degrees with 8.8mm of lift whilst the LT cams offer 256 degrees with 8.0mm of lift. What differences/characteristics would you acheive using the different type cams with a turbo? and which of the two would be the prefered choice and why?

I've just been informed that when turboing the less 'cammy' the better and that out of the two the LT 256 8.0mm would be the better option. Can anybody add anymore info to this and explain a little further?

The RS cams have too much duration and mean you end up with alot of overlap which isn't desirable with a turbo.

At the end of the day you need your power lower down the rev range in a turbo motor. Otherwise you either have to run a whacking great big laggy turbo or run a small one outside its best efficiency

I bought a complete K1100LT engine this morning (For less that I've seen Heads go for!) :) Its in the boot of my car now, I cant wait to get home, lol :)
