Its a question I've often thought to ask.
Is it generally just the top ring land that is larger on a turbo piston than on n/a .

Dont think there is a solid answer. Different pistons will have different designs, using different materials etc.

Stronger material will allow for thinner crown.

Pretty sure the crown thickness on the OEM Metro turbo cast pistons was pretty huge though.

I measured some CP Pistons for a Subaru a few years back, and crown thickness just above the rod on that one was only 5.5mm

As Carl says, typically you want a larger distance between the top of the piston and the top ringland on a turbo car, not that is related to actual crown thickness.

and a thicker ring land between first and second ring, definately a trend i have noticed on turbo pistons. Not always the case, but you see it a lot.

What would be the general sort of thickness between top ring land to piston crown and thickness between top and second ring on good quality forged turbo pistons .

Never really seen huge variations between 1 and 2

But OEM metro turbo from memory top of piston to top ring was near 10mm, which is fairly large.

But 6-10mm wouldnt be uncommon on most "boost" type pistons, if if course pin height, compression height etc all allow that sort of spacing.
