Hi guys, I've got a hold of some forged pistons. They're omega +20 5.8cc with the offset dish and have 3025 stamped into them.

One however has been damaged from where 2nd gear went and caused some debris to hit the under crown of the piston and the rod too.

Question is, do we think its reusable or is worth getting a replacement? I was thinking of getting the rods shot peened to stop any potenional cracks developing

And this is what the rest of them are like:

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Thanks
James

Running this could cause much more cost in the long run. I would hang it up in my ahem as a conversation starter. Poor man pays twice...

I,d be happy to use that piston again, but am a little less sure of the marks on that rod - will they polish out ?

I have seen catastrophic failures from far smaller imperfections. It might be fine for years, it might not. Personally, I wouldn't risk my crank, block, gearbox, valves.

Aye these were the ones from eBay Gary.

The only mark which concerns me really is this one here:

I don't really want the bores getting scored, what do we reckon?

I can definantly feel the marks of the rod tadge, hence why I thinknt might be a good idea to get them shot peened?

In my opinion, not that its worth much these days, those are no longer any use in any sort of performance engine where you are looking for longevity.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

You can always remove any high spots from the pistons, if you are worried about the bore and make sue all the rings rotate freely. As for the rod, it may be ok with a clean up and peen, but unless its anything special I'd be tempted to find another rod.
