Still in DIY development, recent adjustments and tuning pushed it past the ability of the standard verto clutch, currently working on the rts twin spring set up.

Oh yeh. That's where the intercooler is, I'll put another pic of the engine bay on later once it's all back together. It's not the most efficient place to put it but it's better than nothing.

Had any problems with the underwing I/C in respect of dirt or gravel being thrown at it ?

I looked at this for the A35 but decided that it was too vulnerable and, if I sheilded it, poor airflow.

So far it's been ok, although I'm still testing and setting up the engine. I'm planning on shielding it and ducting air out through the A panel.
Could have put a clubman front on it to get more space but I want to try and keep the front steel and round nose to.

All back together, road tested, rts clutch feels like a normal clutch just with a heavier pedal. Brilliant.
Here's the engine bay, you can see why the intercooler wouldn't fit.

I hope this wasn't the final sprint position. You will struggle to get it off the flywheel if it is...

The spec isn't what you would expect.
It's evolved as times gone on, I didn't have a master plan at the beginning, although don't expect many projects do.
I heard about the BMW head conversion from a guy at the mini club I'm in. I liked the idea of it as an engineering challenge.
With a bit of googling and seeing how different company's and individual's had done the conversion I decided to do it my way too.
My build was similar to mattys pics, making templates and then parts for the cam drive etc.......eBay part supplies, buying bespoke parts was cheating. Lol.
It started off as a late carb 1275 with k1100 head running on a dizzy with Honda CBR 600 carbs. That worked very well. Cams were timed for max overlap and it sang nicely. Completed the engine conversion for less than £1000 including the A series and the complete K1100 engine and loom.
I then spent months searching wiring diagrams and researching the motronic ecu which came with the bike engine, I thought at first I would be able to splice the loom into the mini loom and make it all work, obviously that wasn't possible which I soon realised. Although as I had the throttle bodies and all the injection system I wanted to get it to work, I came across Megasquirt, that was the way forward.
Bought a kit, built it, got it all fitted and working, massive learning curve on the way! You think you know how engines work until you have to make it work!
It ran for a year on ITB's, then it evolved again, I got hold of a turbo that was in good condition and that started the ball rolling again.
Current spec which is probably dangerously close to the edge.
1275 a+ with standard everything , K1100 16v head with standard cams, inlet closes 10degs atdc exhaust opens 10degs btdc duration as standard. T2 turbo running at 1 bar max getting that at about 3,500 rpm. Ecu MS2 v3 wasted spark coil pack, boost control, wideband lambda , vag intercooler under the wing. Gearbox all standard too.
That's where I am with it, don't think it can evolve any more, suspension work and weight reduction is the next thing for the car. Oh and upgrading the bits that break too.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've taken it to Castle Coombe the last 4 years, each time it's been different. I'm with West Country Minis.
The brakes have always been great, didn't want to remove the servo just I case it all went pear shaped.
The plenum is from an old escort xr3i, modified to fit, I'll put build pics up later.

And there's more
The last pic is from this week when I had it apart fitting the clutch. I've added trumpets to see what difference it makes, it seems to be running richer at idle ,although I've not done any real testing yet.

You could add a pc fan or two to that IC to aid low speed/high rpm driving *wink*
I'm also loving the 'If it works it doesn't have to be pretty' attitude you got going on there!

Yeh it's a bit scruffy, it's going through its research and development stage of life.

Well there's no point wasting time making things look too good, get it on and test it!
If it works make a pretty one after.....if there's time. Lol.
