GT17 Shaft play

Since i've stripped the top end down to replace the damaged head gasket, i've noticed some slight play in the turbo.

It has had a rebuild about 200 miles ago, there is no signs of oil in the turbo / intercooler pipes or smoke out the mini when started and on booost.

Whats your thoughts on replacement of the core or keep with it till it starts to smoke.

Do any of you guys know of ggod places to get cores from too.

Did you replace the everything except the shaft? my turbine shaft looked a little worn so if mine starts to play up i know it will pretty much be the cause of it.

Yep used everything in the kit that would fit my turbo.

Since there was no shaft i used the original, there is a little play but not smoking or oil in the intercooler pipe work.

I think you are in the same boat as me with it then mate. I would wait until it gets smokey haha

the only issue i have is that i've have the actuator is welded on to the intake chamber so dont fancy damaging it, if the play gets really bad.

Just spoke to Turbo Rebuilds in Blackpool and been quoted £190+vat inc carrage for a complete replacement garrett core assembily.

How much play may there actually be in a gt 1752?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

i'll get a video, but had a price of £190 for a new core tohough.

How close to the compressor housing does the turbine wheels come? As long as it doesnt touch whilst dry from oil its not going to touch while its at oil pressure you would be surprised how much difference it makes

It oges no where near brett, rotated the shaft with a little pressure on the shaft and it doesnt touch.

Got 0.004" clearance with the compressor pushed towards the housing.
