Trying to get the bloody brake disc off of the girlfriend's car so i can change the wheel bearings. It's held in with a T50 torx that is well and truly locked in place. It snapped my standard Torx so I'm looking for a impact one but nowhere local seems to stock them. (obviously i can buy one online but i want it today).

Anyone local got one i can borrow?

You'll probably find you'll have to drill it out or something, my sisters bini had to have both sides ground out not long ago as she was having new discs, nothing would shift them and they just started chewing up :/

I tried to change the discs and pads, wasn't getting anywhere so the car went to my mates garage and he couldn't budge them either. The wheels hold the disc on anyway much like a mini rear drum, never bothered with the retaining screws, just drill it out bud.

You could try mig welding a bolt to the head of the torx screw and then an impact socket on that.

Sometimes the heat from the welding makes the difference

Is the original Torx thread locked or do they just seize ?

Heat can make a huge difference either way

Plus hitting it a big whack with a hammer first

thanks chaps, i got it out. went and bought an impact torx set from machine mart. heated up the disc and used a breaker bar.

Problem is that the 4 bolts holding the bearing assy in place have corroded on their heads so just went round straight away.

i'm going to put in the garage to fix. not worth my time to get those things off!

Wash out your mouth with soap!! A garage won't do anything you can't. Heat area around bolt thread. Then wallop on a smaller socket and undo. Resulting in job done and cash in your pocket.

Yeah I know, was just hoping they'd save me the hassle. Anyway, called them up today.... £500 to do a pair of wheel bearings! apparently the genuine bearings are £200/ side. That's given me the incentive to sort it out myself. Bought a twist socket set to help with the job (always been meaning to get some anyway) . Guess I know what i'm spending next weekend doing.

Carl,

My bearings came without the 4 bolts to hold it on and they're no good to reuse. Did you buys new ones separate? I've yet to find them on their own.

Which 4 bolts do you mean? All 4 around the car? On the back this one had one securing bolt each per disc, didn't really do anything to be honest, never got replaced anyway after being ground out afaik.
