I'm currently looking into turbocharging for a Formula Student car to be used in 2015, but I'm having a hard time choosing between turbos.
The ones I have narrowed it down to are the Garrett GT1241 and the Garrett GT1544, but I cant tell what the major difference between them is, the compressor maps are quite similar but with the efficiency islands in different places. And the turbine maps are similar but lead me to think the GT1241 turbine is slightly 'bigger' but with a smaller range of pressure ratios.
Could anyone advise me on the differences please? Or any suitable alternatives? The GT1544 is apparently 0.6kg lighter and £100 cheaper so is the preferred option all else being equal.
For reference we will be running at around 0.8 Bar boost, from 4-7 lb/min ish, aiming for about 70-75hp, running E85 and an 11:1 CR with a 450cc single cylinder KTM engine
