i went to see my mate today who has tons of parts kicking around, i picked up this turbo and spotted the gt1549 marking so hoped it would be ok for my basic 998 build?

anyone used/got one?

will it be any good on a fairly basic 998 setup?

See if you can find a compressor map, or at least the a/r of both sides mate and compare it to similar used turbos like the t2, if it's not far off then go for it I'd say *wink*

It should be good. From what I remember from the bit of research I did was there are three (main?) Gt15 variants. the GT1544, GT1548, GT1549. I believe they increase in 'size' with the higher numbers. the main difference I could gather was they would make boost higher up the rev range.

So I think that means the 44 would make say 8 psi at 2500rpm (all these are example figures, the actual figures can be gained from compressor maps I believe) but would become inefficient at 12 psi and make more heat than pressure. The 49 would make 8psi at 3500 rpm but be efficient up to 20 psi.

I'm sure someone who know what're they're talking about will be more help but that's what I gathered.

they make 130hp all day long @19psi on the L-series they were fitted to. and spooled from nothing. probably a good fit for a 998, either crunch the numbers or suck it and see :)

Probably around 12psi, it's all you're going to need tbh, that should make around 120bhp if everything else is sound and the tune is right.

never got further than a dry lash up with mine for the 998 but is a good size needs only a minor rotation to align the actuator and is v cheap mine will be on hold for the next year or so till i get my k-head project going.

i didnt think i could go as high as 12psi, thats excellent! i was thinking 10 would have been risking it.

what kind of C.R. should i aim for? 9:1?
