I bought a myford a few years back from a deceased chaps estate, i was told at the time he was an ex navy or raf engineer i cant remember but was bought new and had sod all use and had been covered in grease and packed up for many years.

couple of weeks ago made a stand and got it leveled up

today after watching Alex at combe i fitted it to the stand even though its small its still a heavy lathe and quite hard to get on level without damaging the studs

Not sure why the photos are poor they look ok on my phone

i was originally planning to completely restore it however once i cleaned it up it looks great, there is absolutely no wear in the bearings the bed is unmarked and there are no tight spots so i think i will just change the belts and keep it original, just need to order the correct oils i think

I was very lucky iirc i paid £375 but it came with £400 worth of pratt burnard chucks and a load of tools, they seem to go in the £400-£1200 depending on condition the main reason for me buying one was the spares availability you can still but most parts new even though it was made in the 50's

just waiting on a new reversing switch and hopfully i can get it running

Nice. I would like something like that when I eventually get round to building a new garage.

My lathe is about 70 years old. Power feed, power cross feed, Norton thread cutting gearbox and has done an enormous amount of work in the last 20 odd years in my workshop.

My mill is a bit more modern and not as substantial, but it is surprising what can be done with a rotary table and bit of patience.

My lathe headstock is in pieces right now, so no pics of mine... *frown*

But the bridgeport is simply my favorite tool of all in my garage. That said, it is very inferior compared to jimsters Bport...

Bridgeport is best, but they need more headroom than I have - and they usually need 3 phase.

Simon, that mill is a Sealey "mickey mouse" effort, but, used carefully as I said it will do most things. It just won,t do heavy cuts.I can 11 stud a head and block on there and also face off the head and block - just !

i worked in engineering for a few years and while it proved to be very usefull being able to drop onto the machines in lunch hour or after work. now i have to go back there and get jobs done by my old mates, and its sucks having to wait for things to get made.

I'll take some photos my old Colchester student lathe, and CNC Bridgeport.
My workshop is getting very full. Luckily, I'm having a 3rd garage in my garden for my toys to live in. I need more space!!!
