Found out mine has been fitted with old drum brake wheel bearings for some reason!

Thanks

Can't you just change the bearings

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

Do the hubs need to be enlarged for the bearing?

I thought it would be the wrong way to do it to be honest.

they're the same size, they fit just fine and are a fuckton cheaper.

What is the difference in them? Are they ball bearing instead of taper-roller?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

big balls...

I did think they had to bore the hub out for them to fit.

The tapered type have a little spacer between them but it just seems to slide around!

Is the race not in enough do you reckon?

The spacer is there to stop the needle rollers getting crushed when you torque the hub nut up, but more importantly, to keep the inner races correctly spaced from the outer races on both sides.

So should this spacer be stuck between the two races and not move about as mine is? or will it only do that when the hub nut it tightened like you said?

You'll see how it comes together when the CV is fitted.

The spacer will snug on to the CV shaft, it's only loose now because there is room for it to move around in the cavity with the CV not in place.

Beware though, there are different sized spacers for the various bearings that you can buy, so make sure you have the correct one. The obvious and non scientific way would be to check for slop on the hub if the spacer happened to be too big when torqued up, but a little more difficult if the spacer is too small. Sorry I can't be of more help in this department. Perhaps you could dry assemble the bearings outside of the hub and check that the spacer does not move backwards and forwards excessively.
