I bought this car when I was 16 in the hope of restoring it with a few little subtle touches, the car was in a pretty bad state when I got it. It was from southend and you could tell. The shear amount of bodge jobs from cardboard in the arches covered in filler. Cable tie exhaust hangers. Well after a while I put a new steel front on it half a paint job due to me being lazy and liking the scruffy look. Still with the original 998 which was painfully slow. I drove it for a year with its ups and downs done london to brighton etc without a problem.

this is what it looked like when I picked it up:

then new front:

After a while it now looks like this:

then it was time for a turbo, the proposed spec is as follows:

12g940 head cleaned up and matched
998 pocketed
kent 266 or mg metro cam
duplex timing or belt
hiff 44
metro turbo dizzy
metro plenum
mirrage-esk home make mani
GT17
cozzie 2wd cooler
ali rad

so far I've collected a good amount of the parts only things left to get is the carb, dizzy, cooler and cam.

and the flanges are getting cnc'd at uni this week

staring to think about the place of the actuator

anyway any comments are welcome just thought i would share more to come shortly

Nic

Seems a well thought out build. Should seem like a rocket after the standard 998.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Looks good, I have been thinking recently about using a gt17 instead of the T2, will be interesting to see how it performs on a similar build to mine.

Looks nice and chunky... Quite fancy a round nose myself now. I like it...

Really like the look of this mini. Good luck with the engine

just a quick up date these are the flanges, going to be welded to the mani in the next couple weeks. I know not much is happening at the minute. Well the next hurdle is the pocketing I want to do it myself with a carbide burr but I'm not to sure. If i send it off i will have to fully strip it that means new rings shells and bearings. Then a friend suggested dishing the pistons 6cc it will make my compression ratio 8.25:1 I'm not too sure if thats to much i know it means more boot but would a standard engine take it?

I wouldn't go as low as CR 7,25:1, it won't be driveable. Loosing too much low down torque.

75' Mini special deluxe.
1275 A+ engine with turbo on the way...

I'm going back home next weekend for easter and need to get a few bits done. Ive got to make the pockets, can someone suggest the right size burr to use and I'll get it ordered. So through me being away and being a design student Ive started looking into make a few bits for this mini and my other one which i bought of a friend the other month. Its a 2000 mli shell so as you guessed very rusty. I plan to make this a lightened trick mini hopefully. I've started to make things like coil over turrets and tools on CAD though I might share them here.

Hole swager in 1/2" 1" and 11/2"

And a dimple die which has a detachable head for different sizes

the reason for this is that its cheaper to make rather than buy

well theres not much going on with the red mini, bits left to get are:
Fuel pump
Fuel reg
Hiff 44
Intercooler
Leccy fan for rad
Oil feed
piping for vac and intercooler
Mg metro cam
Gt17 mounting plate for mani

think thats it for now

Rough drawings in auto cad then in inventor pro to do simulations and 3D stuff

The engine has gone off to be pocketed with the crank and flywheels to be balanced. I'm not bothering with lightening them as the flywheel will be replaced with a lightened pre-verto item. Bought a dizzy for now. just need a cam, carb, duplex and need to make a oil feed. A gt17 uses an M12 thread just trying to get the bits for that really. going to weld up the mani when I'm back. I also need a mooting plate for the manifold still can't get hold of one. If anyone who's where to get them or has a spare one please let me know :)
