Ok guys after a hard session on the roller yesterday, I noticed a significant amount of oil underneath the passenger side of my car. I had a quick look and couldn't find anything expect my K&N breather on the timing cover was soaked in oil and the area was cover in oil.

I've been out this morning, and again more oil from that breather. There seems to be a drop in power, but generally normal. Topped it up again and it as lost another litre

My first thoughts are piston ring damage, however I've check the transfer breather and it was blocked with white sticky shit. I've also recently fitted a alloy rocker cover cap, without a breather.
Therefore it's been running on only 1 very small breather.

Any ideas,

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Compression check mat to rule the ring land damage out, Hope you not running it in duckhams oil its renowned. For Mayo, if CR checks out install another couple of breathers the A Series likes to breath, take it from there?

NA base map, then pulling out 5% for every 0.1Bar, therefore 30degrees at 5000rpm, equals to 24degrees. Det sensor didn't alert anything. Base map is set on 97octane, current fuel is 99.

I did runs at 4% and power only increased slightly, so I up pulled it back to 5% for safety.

Right, ive just been out after cleaning everything and unblocking the breathers. Good news - no leaks. The car seems to be running fine. Hard to tell though as it was rush hour.

I've moved the timing breather higher up, as it was bend over and facing downward next to the radiator.

Looks like I need to rework the breather system. Ive removed the rocker breather from my previous engine due to mayo build up. I'm only running 16mm ID hoses to the catch tank. my 5 port turbo runs 25mm pipes and never as a problem.

any suggestions on best breather system?

I going to do compression check this morning anyway. Problem is it involves removing the plenum and throttle bodies to remove the plugs. If all is well, I'll upgrade breathers.

is this a fresh build or have you ran this setup for some time and then all of a sudden?

perhaps sort a breathing system like the turbo if thats working well?

yellow book says the more the better in terms of breathers

I've done about 1000miles on this setup, with no problems . However Ive only being going out for quick 10mins blast recently. In fairness it was driven hard on the dyno on Thursday and against a heavy load so would have highlighted any issues at prolong boost runs.

Am currenlty working on the new breather system. 22mm ID from transfer case to rocker cover. 16mm from timing cover. Then 25mm out of rocker into catch tank. Any body running a breather from the dizzy hole?

IMO

run all available breathers to the rocker cover, then a rocker cover breather to catch tank, the rocker cover then acts as an "oil trap"

big one (1") from transfer case to rocker cover, and a 1/2" from timing case tpo rocker cover should suffice.

I run a dizzy breather.. but I have an oil flame trap inline of the pipe...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

things to keep in mind for when i get around to it

out of interest has anyone ever enlarged the hole in block where timing cover plate goes? after all this is where the block vents to the cover then out what ever breather size is chosen guess its not to inprotant as ive not herd of it also probaly only relavant if its smaller than the breather?
