Most rads with fans have a built in temp switch boss. The standard mini rad doesn't if you buy the really late mini rad it does have a boss for a switch.

If you have a megasquirt, or any ecu, you can usually control fans from them too.

Most don't bother with a sensor for an extra fan. If its getting hot in traffic just a switch in the dash should be ok and keep your eye on the temps.

I'd be surprised if there is a modified mini owner who doesn't stare at the temps in traffic!

Even pretty unmodified ones do that too haha.

You could get something like this:

Wire one leg of that switch from live (fused, I would do it permanent to allow for cooling after shutdown, but that's personal choice), then the other leg to the switched live feed on a relay. Connect the other side of the relay to earth, then a suitably sized live from the battery or starter solenoid to the relay feed in (fused again), then the same from feed out to the fan, then the other fan wire to earth. Just make sure you have the fan polarity correct.

to be honest id not bother with running wires inside the car, just use a temp switch like the link perhaps use the coolant drain plug for the sender/switch

you may find you'll relax rather than being stuck watching the dash bored..
