Jesus Christ, that could have been dangerous. Always pays to check unless you see it running in the car! On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

That engine has had more owners than I have had hot dinners!

Don't forget to check the timing and torque everything up

I can understand an amateur thinking "load the bearings with grease", but I cannot fathom how they could step back after putting that flywheel on and think that that was acceptable. It's a good job you've checked it before running it!

It's a good job you've checked it before running it! I'm surprised it hasn't been said already, BAC... How did you find applying the crinkle paint? I'm tempted to try it on my rocker cover but I've heard it can be tricky to get good results. The crinkle paint is pretty easy to apply, straight forward painting but the trick is to heat it up in a oven to get a good crinkle effect. Mother would go wild if i put things in the oven so i used a heater on full power to basically bake it. I would get a much better result if i used the oven method though. I did have a week of being mega fucked off with the engine but i just thought time to get on with it! |

Standard bolts are up to the job but judging from the rest of the engine, how do you know some gorilla hasn't over torqued them??
If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

998 flyhweel housings the same as 1275? If they are both standard A plus, essentially yes except the 998 doesn't have the breather hole drilled (well not on the ones I've seen). There may be other subtle differences I've not noticed but that is the most obvious one. If it's a pre A plus 998 (or 1275) one, forget it, the idler bearing is a completely different size. If it's a genuine turbo one you have, again no.... the input shaft support bearing (can't remember the proper name) is bigger so won't fit in a standard 1275 or 998. Although you could allways revert to the standard bearing as I see in an earlier photo it's fooked anyway..... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

I got the old bearing off hoping it would have some id markings but it had nothing on it.
