An Allegro Turdo is a great idea. I have always fancied one since having an Allegro with an MG metro engine fitted back in the mid 90s.

If money is a concern a standard-ish metro turbo lump with carb and clockwork dizzy (or megajolt/squirt) if you can stretch to it would probably be for the best if you are intent on turbo a-series. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

atm its my daily driver, that and a Maxi too, so i can always swap and use the other if one is broke, i have quite a collection of turbos and a metro turbo manifold. im pretty confident with mechanicing but would like an easy build. ive had a quick look at the k100 setup and it looks the business, but it is a little expensive. The other option is to upgrade to the E series engine at 1750cc and five gears thats probably more cost effective, but, Allegro turbo has a ring to it :) |

off on a tangent but what about a K-series turbo out the rover 75 etc? Even a NA 1.8 K will give you decent power for a daily and 5 speed etc? I know its against the forum name but it would be different! |

i have done some measuring up and a K series with an end on box is too big for the hole :( although a Kv6 would possibly fit with a metro r45 gearbox if they fit together. i don't want to cut the body if i can help it, but the Kv6 has more going for it in the future if i can get one cheap enough. |

A kv6 Allegro would be fantastic. I'd try to avoid cutting the shell as well, because you never know. Some day, Allegros might be sought after On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

I run a vvc with a r56u box, just make sure you get a good 190mm or 200mm clutch Drives

R56 and PG1 boxes are interchangeable, you just need to make a clutch to suit from one of each type.

R56 and pg1 are interchangeable but you need to change alot more than just the clutch, the flywheel on the pg1 is compleatly different, it takes a larger clutch than the r56u and the flywheel is alot heavyer as well. Box size the pg1 is larger than the r56u and requires different mounts (or use spacers) but has alot more ratio options and easy to get hold of lsd's. For every day without spending the earth on a flywheel and getting the c6 gearset the r56u is the better option. Drives

Now I know the kv6 would bolt up to a metro gearbox im starting to warm to idea. Should give me ample space to fit it in the bay. Any one know what bits from a metro will fit the allegro? Like dribe shafts and hubs? |

Can you not do a subframe swap? Use a metro/mgf frame with the kv6 in on a r56u box then everything will ready brakes, shafts ect Drives

Unfortunately Allegros haven't a subframe. Its more like one thats built into the car. It does resemble the metro /r100 setup with the the vertical hydragas and such but on a narrower scale. |

If a metro subframe fits into a mini then it will fit an allegro and the allegro is wider so should not need arch mods Drives

Problem is that the Allegro hasn't got a removable subframe to swap as its built into the structure of the car. I guess if i put the metro box in the bay with the drive shafts in and then measure how much gap I have to mount the engine in? |
