Having a day working on the family car today, repairing the family Allroad with some aftermarket air suspension parts from Arnott Industries in the US. A huge saving compared to dealer pricing. Only thing is I've come to undo the pinch bolt on the upper front suspension that hold the two upper control arms in place and the bolt has sheared at both ends. Turns out this is a common problem on VAG group cars. There's a fancy tool to remove them, just don't fancy forking out £500 for it!

Yes, as you say quite common, heat and penetrating oil before shearing it off is my tactic! Not sure about the allroad as they are on air but on the a4/a6 you can remove the top mounting plate that the inner end of those arms mount to, then remove the whole lot off the car and work on it on the bench which makes it a lot easier.
