Right guys I asked ages and ages ago about my 998 block fine to over bore

well I have finally got pictures of the underside of my block meet my pain in the ass (not the misses)

Cylinders 1 + 2 (furthest from rad end)

Cylinders 3 + 4 (Nearest Rad end)

Believe it was Will.H who said about blocks being sleeved and not from factory

is this safe to over bore or is it scrap it buy a new block?

Thanks
Stephen

Sleeved blocks can usually be bored .20. What's the OD of the sleeves?

Fit .80 pistons from Minispares?

That's a new one on me!!

But those sleeves are not factory. All the factory sleeved blocks I have seen have a different casting to that.

You'll need +20 to get decent pistons, and that should be fine.

I thought it was an odd bod but its standard bore size

thought it was odd it was painted red inside not a hit of black or yellow paint anywhere...

It's probably been reconditioned in the past.

Personally I would start with another block. If they only bothered to sleeve two bores, who knows what else they didn't do right...

998 blocks are cheap and easy to get hold of, I'd just get another.

Why do you want a series? I may have a block from a standard bore 1098 its had water sat in it so will need a rebore but if your going large should be fine.

I think it was Veg who was arguing this?

Is the differance that the A+ ones have a solid lower bearing and the A has the groove?

I prefer the solid and have never had a problem.

Dose this bottom end look standard to you guys? out my A plus engine

The few A series engines I had to bits before only had 6 sided nuts and the crank didn't look as machined as this one

any thoughts thanks

yep, that's stock. Someone else may be able to tell you when the rod bolts were switched, but all of the A+ units I've opened had the 12point rod bolts.
