After checking my crank today it appears to be bent, so looks like I'll be needing a new one! *oh well*

I'm after a fully worked crank, wedged and bladed etc, but if someone has a standard crank (preferably with good mains) and good taper that'll be fine too. :)

Cheers
Matt

Get it straightened!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I was thinking that, but then the taper isn't great on mine (probably as the flywheel has been vibrating around since being bent). And I wanted some more work done to it anyway, to get some more weight out of it.

My main concern is that it has been stressed now, and it will probably be weaker at that point once straightened. *oh well*

It's got 0.28mm run out which seems a fair bit!

Straightening it is easy if you have access to a fly press and wont induce stress of affect its reliability, it's how cranks are straightened at the factory on some very expensive modern crankshafts.

Remember this, the crank I had in the 16 vaver when I had the center main bearing failure flexed enough to allow the pistons to touch the head. That was the thickness of the head gasket, and I drove the car home 28 miles *happy* A regrind and line bore, and it went back in for another 3000 miles *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks for the offer Paul, but I don't think I'll make mitp this year.

Colin - yeah I have access to a press, but I'm not too convinced that it'll be as strong as it was. We straighten cranks at work by preening the radii in different places on the journals/mains, then get the journals reground. But they are 5 bearing cranks, that aren't having the nuts rev'd off them. *oh well* I'll keep hold of it for a rainy day though. Lol

Nic - I don't think so as that was years ago now, the centre main bearing wasn't looking too healthy but considering the crank was bent it could of been worse. the last trip I did in it was coombe, it could of happend then. *oh well* the shitty grade of centre main cap bolts wouldn't of helped either! I'm tempted to go for one of them cast mini spares 4 bolt centre cap instead.
