One again Mike did a sterling job setting up the Mini.

It went in with 55 BHP and came out with 58 BHP. Nat asp 998 (no trophy for me at Avon this year me thinks)

To be honest this isn't a massive increase (I'd done a good job of filing the needle). But he knew there was a bit more to come so spent time altering the timing (Megasquirt) to get the most he could.

We take the turbo here to. He prices are reasonable (?50 this time) and his rollers are believable.

Basicially if you want a RR in the North West give him a try.

I gave him a try, fitted stage 1 couple of weeks before MOT, popped it down to Mikeanics. He put it onto the rolling road, instead of him taking a needle which would be suitable for your car, he just tried to profile my existing AAU down, which he pushed back into the piston losing atleast 1 to 1.5 of the chucks on the needle. Noticed a lumpy idle, he assured me that it'd pass an MOT.

We took it down to the MOT station with the car untouched at this point, the emissions weren't even close to being able to pass an MOT, the jet adjusting nut was wound up but this barely affected the lumpy idle, the only way we could get it down to a passable emissions value was to rev it to around 3,000 RPM.

Got onto the phone to mikeanics, he seemed reluctant to have another look at the car, after explaining that this wasn't good service he agreed to 'tune it by ear', and would not put it back on the rollers! So I still don't know how the emissions are, but I definatly know now that he should have used to new needle to profile, rather than just pushing the old one back up into the piston.

Not too happy from his '£80 of work', I won't be going there again, no way.

Perfectly normal practice to file a needle. Not sure what 1 to 1.5 of the chucks means though.

It did pass then?

Sadly this is one side of the story. Mike has only ever been reasonable to me, maybe you were a twat to him?

After all, your first post on this forum is to slag somebody off who has no chance of responding.

I've had my Turbo setup by Mike twice now, with a third visit booked.

I've had nothing but great service from Mike, he is a sound bloke who knows what he is doing.

It passed by winding the jet adjusting nut all the way down and holding it on 2-3k revs.

It maybe perfectly normal to file down a needle which is close to the required profile, but considering the needle was obviously a mile off that he had to MOVE the needle up into the piston, the needle should have been replaced with a more suitable needle, and THEN profiled.

Obviously the needles are seperated into 12 chucks usually and measured at each one. From a little research, the first 2 chucks are standard across the range of needles suitable to the mini which provide a suitable idle mixture. He basically moved the needle into the piston losing the first measurement.

I was not a so called 'tw*t' to him, I did not intefere, infact he told me to go into town to get a coffee, 'while he figured it out'. He charged me £70 and I gave him an extra £10 as I felt that he'd provided a good service at the time, and after he'd assured me it'd pass an MOT I was pleased.

The bit that then annoyed me the most is when it was completly off at the MOT station, and when I rung him back to try and get this sorted out it was like he didn't want to know. He realised that he had no option but to have another look but didn't want to put it back on the rolling road/emissions tester. So really, I have no idea what the emissions are at now, and I don't have the equipment to do it myself.

You seem quite hostile wil_h, I am not lying and I don't take pleasure in 'slagging somebody off', I was offering advice from my experience of his service.

Infact I did speak to you over at minifinity and it was you who recommended him to me wil_h.
