right, I'm about to fit new duplex timing gears to my engine, to replace the belt drive kit which seems to never stop leaking (yes tried all the usual tricks).

using the DTI in the spark plug port isnt very accurate unless the DTI screws into the plug hole - which mine doesnt... |

Is there timing marks on the flywheel you can use for tdc? On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

Headgasket isn't very expensive and timing is pretty important

Just use a finger type Dti In the plug hole, it should reach fine. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fusion-Fabri..._homepage_panel

One of the ways it can be done on indirect diesels (pre chamber in the way of the injector holes) is to pull off a valve spring and rest the valve on top of the piston, then put the DTI on the valve. For me this would be a last resort, but if you do make sure you don't turn the crank very far, and make sure those collets go back properly.

use the dead stop method to find true tdc and mount the protractor in the right place. On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:

you do need a very sturdy dead stop ( (if the plug is angled) that reaches deep enough to touch somewhere near the centre of the piston otherwise the rock of the piston gives grief.
Edited by Sir Yun on 1st Jul, 2013. That sir, is not rust, it is the progressive mass reduction system
