After 7 years of not being bothered to fix the gearbox...:)

sc box,sc transfers,Xpin diff. - 2.9 ratio.
light steel flywheel,race clutch,gray plate.
homemade head - MG valves, guide bosses removed-ported-chanbers opened slightly etc etc.
genuine leyland 649 cam - was found unused in the original bog roll (blue+white striped) tube from the early 70's in my mates shed a few years back *happy*
std turbo + rover diesel intercooler + cheapo aftermarket dump valve.

spax coil overs, vented disks, blah blah blah.....

So out with the paint thinners and ill be racing the bikes down the cat and fiddle again? havnt they put up speed traps now :( ???

iv had numerous turbocharged minis from around 1995.

early ones were 7psi on high compression MG spec engines with 3:4 diffs
pushed to 10psi and they used to be real nasty....prob my fave spec motor for rashing round town.

these would generally last 6 months before shredding teeth off the std boxes....bald cogs were a regular sight haha and id limp home in 4th.

Wish i had more pics!
I started turning the boost up and melting pistons quite regularly.
One piston came out once missing a full half down one side and looked like an aero choccie bar.. full of bubbles!!

I tried some van pistons in an engine once ...booked at 8:1 BUt the skirts had a gap in them. they were great at 15 psi for a short while before no4 shattered on a hot day whilst racing (blowing the doors off) a catheram on a hot day coming back from buxton.

never blown a crank tho! always had my cranks ground bottom limit for the shells - worn before they go in *happy*.

tried water injection etc etc..but found no more melty things whilst using paint thinners for fuel. bloody great!!!!

anyone playing out round winsford/northwich/ aulton park areas let me no and ill dust her off and come play out !!!

duuno my current power...never seen a set of rollers!!! shes a 1275, 649 cam, locked off dizzy and 0.8bar *std* boost setting at the mo. A pig to get off the line with the 2.9 diff but f**k me backwards with a chainsaw when the cam and turbo decide its time to start to play you better hold on very tightly !!!!!

the 649 cam is similar to the STR930 cam if I'm not mistaken and this was the regulation cam in the turbo challenge cars I think.

don't recall the general output of these engines but I know jon flan was getting 150bhp ish out his very well sorted unit

Go on, be brave, put it in the car and tell us how it works.
