Righty, I'm trying to get an lma2 rpm converter to work with an lc1, but I'm not having much luck.

I have the inductor pick-up and tried that but its not giving an rpm signal on the computer, I have also tried the tacho signal off an edis module. The tacho signal when metered out is a steady 1.1v on idle increasing with rpm like you'd expect, but when looking at the screen in logworks, you just get a brief pulse.

Has anyone got any ideas of what else to try? I've had a play with the rm and voltage value etc...but it doesn't seem to make any difference?

Cheers

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Again, not quite sure how you intend to use this but the LM1815 that Colin suggests is a very good sine wave to square wave convertor.

There are more modern ones but they are SMD on a very small pin pitch so I stick with the LM1815 or use one of Jean's boards that have the newer SMDs installed.

Cheers colin, how would that work with the lma2? from what I gather all of the channels work by a 0-5v signal with a designated channel for rpm, that comes from ecu output.

There is a way to set it up via speakers on the PCM, using different Hz to represent different rooms, but I don't fully understand how to do that.

Normally the ECU output for RPM is a 12v square wave.

If this is your Vems box the Tacho channel should be 12v pull up but you can use another low current P259 output without any pull up and apply an external 5v pull up instead.

I'm not familiar with the Inovate stuff, and I asume you are using this on something other than the Vems? what exactly is the Inovate box looking for on the RPM input? is it looking at a VR signal or a square wave signal, and what voltage? Is the voltage applied by the Inovate box or does it need to be applied by the ECU?

Just connect a coil -ve to the RPM input on the LMA-2. It will convert that signal to a 0-5v for use in Logworks.

You will need to set it up as 4 cyl, wasted spark.

This is for a setup at work on our dyno. We were getting massive RF interference off the magnetos, which gave use some weird lambda readings. I suggested hooking up the mj to the dyno for many reasons, but the main one being to illiminate the RF signal which it has.

It's running on an 8 cylinder engine, but for some reason the mj is showing double the rpm on the computer, and no matter what I try I can't get it to read right. As we were using the innovate for data logging It makes sense to get the rpm running through that too. I haven't tried the tacho out on the mj yet, but I'll give it a try taking the signal directly off the coil.
