been driving around in some pretty bad cars over the last few months which havnt been ideal for towing apart from the landrover... but that was a little over the top

so went out and get this volvo T5 for a good price, so with any luck itll last a while and pull and mini with ease!

anyone else got one of these? just wanted to know if theres any issues I should look out for

cheers

My mate has one... done 325000kms now.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

Kean had one which then went to Brett, so they will probably be able to advise on issues etc..

Mine was excellent, one of the best cars I have owned. It towed the mini and a huge trailer with ease.

Watch out for electrical issues, make sure you disconnect the battery before any electrical work or it will spit its dummy out. Other than that check the top engine mount is not worn and keep feeding it fuel and tyres and you'll be happy!

Have a look on http://www.vpcuk.org/forums

Landy looks great by the way.

only problem I have is that the brakes are very spongy? theres no visable leaks coming from the callipers or master cylinder, any ideas on that?

it only cost £450! so cant complain

They are quite servoed, but very effective. Maybe it just needs a good bleed?

nice choice and would appear good value - you can't really go wrong

brakes could be as simple as needing some fresh fluid.

ok, joining in here, becuase Ford refuse to sell the Focus ST estate this side of the pond...

So, why are these T5's so cheap? I am now finding myself again wondering if I should look at them. Are any years better than others? Are there any "run away" issues that I should know about?
What kind of fuel economy / 0-60 are we talking (not at the same time of course).

I think the high mileage and cost of fuel puts people off. I seem to remember getting around 28MPG, but I may be thinking of something else. I did see it at 7MPG whilst towing up a hill once though.

Other than the above, I had no issues with mine. They will eat tyres if you are not sensible with the power out of the bends.

I'd buy another tomorrow if I had the space to keep it, so practical, comfortable, fast and great fun if you get an ex police one.

insurance and fuel consumption i think -i replaced mine with a skyline and do the same mileage on the same fuel infact i run the skyline on v power and use the same amount in cash value

as for issues if you get a good one i feel that the body would rot out before the mechanics die

mine used to do 22mpg on a commute and about 35mpg on the motorway at sensible speed( about the same towing)
traffic light kill the consumption though probably due to there weight
0-60 never timed it tbh not great at leaving the line but fantastic if already moving 30-70 would surprise a typical impreza

i would have kept mine but i couldnt justify the insurance and fuel

the T5 is the high boost pressure 2.3l straight 5 engine
the T5r is the same engine but 4wd
i dont know the rest :)

Nice car, very very cheap!

I have a V70 II 2.4T Ocean Race (2002).
It has been great for the last 100k kms.
Electrically I had the internal rear-view mirror go bad; there is a lot of electrical stuff inside that.
Cost 400€ to replace... ! *surprised*
I am getting 10kms/liter almost every time, that is driving highway a lot (avg 130km/h).
It's not to kind to the tires but might have to do with the (factory) sports suspension.

As brett says, not really quick of the line but once it's rolling it's pretty quick.
The T5 has 250hp (mine = LPT, has 200).
I have driven a tuned V70 R at 350hp, which was a very nice experience. *happy*

If you get a later T5 they are 300bhp with a 6 speed box too

Didn't know that.
Garage man told me that the R would do 10kms/L too because of the 6speed box.
