Does anyone have any photos of a clubman front end with an airdam or splitter on the front?

Now that looks Wicked. Is that the ABS front spoiler?

Life is always a matter of opinion and quite frankly, no ones opinion really matters.

I hate to state the obvious but a garden shed on wheels would punch a smaller hole that this. Or am i failing to see the logic behind the transformation.

Yes, you fail to see logic.

You can't change the shape of the shilouette within the regs so te best way to reduce drag and try and gain any downforce is to get rid of all the holes and add a splitter. Also the extended arches fully covering the wheels should make improvements. This is the result of all these theories stuck on a clubman front.

However, Jim has now removed most of the aero gubbins. My back-of-a-fag-packet calculations suggested that for UK hills all the added aero stuff will gain you less than the weight added, especially at Gurston, where Jim usually competes.

i seem to remember somebody grafting the lower section of a pre 98 nova onto a clubman before, not sure of the aero assistance it may have added

Just to add to the above, I blocked all the holes in the front of my car and made measurable gains (3 to 5 mph) in maximum speeds at all events (no power increase). The car was also much more stable.

I will say it's amazing what time in the wind tunnel will show you... :) But then again what the hell do I know.

Tell us all about it then. We all know that the mini is a brick, but it has a very small frontal area. For this reason it performs better than you might think, comparitively.

However, before you comment on any design, what ever that might be you have to understand the requirements and the limitations. Especially in motorsport where regulations rule. What Jim did, above, is about as good as you can do in my opinion.

But I don't really know. I would be interested in how it could be done better, obviously.

I remember reading some articals in Racecar engineer about the aero dynamics of a racing mini, albeit a roundnose, and they talked about different options to help which staying within what ever regulations were relevant to the car being tested. I cant remeber exactly all of what was tested but I do remember there being something positive about blacking off parts of the grill and that it helped to reduce lift at high speed.
Here is a link to carbon weezels take on the testing, although the orginal articals were a lot more in depth and spread over several articals: http://www.carbonweezel.co.uk/testing_mini.html

As Ben said, 'what do you know'?

What I know is that time in the wind tunnel would be interesting, but I'd make no gains with what I can do withing the regs. This is quite well researched and documented for a mini.

I know blocking the air rather than allowing it to pass into the under bonnet area made a measurable difference to my car. This is to be expected from general theory of aero on a saloon car.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts on what would be better than the above, which will be difficult to prove either way I guess as this car and any proposed improvement will never have any data.

Having said that, as I said earlier, the above car no longer has the majority of this kit on.

I snapped a picture at MITP last year. Iv been eyeing up this type splitter for a while now so it was good to see another mini with it fitted, just to check out how it sits

dose that splitter have a top and bottom err i mean dose the top roll under and continue to the same mounting place as the top?
looks nice im looking for ways to promote vacuum under the car to draw hot air out of the bay and help stability at speed
