Hi, thinking about turning my morris into an a-series turbo.

Going to be a rolling project, need to get engine up and running with all cooling ect mocked up ready to pull 1098 out and turbo lump in over a weekend as need the car to get to work

I have read through a few threads on here but have a few questions...

1) As minors are rwd, what block would be best, 1275 midget or an 'A+' from a 1300 marina/ital?

2) Do I need a metro turbo head, or will the standard midget/a+ head be ok? Or can the non turbo heads be modded to suit?

3) Want to use type 9 box for the 5th gear, plus std box probably not handle extra power, what clutch would fit + be upto the extra power?

4) I know I need the metro turbo, manifold, actuator ect but what about pistons? Only wanting a standard engine, run 4 psi boost (no ecu) but heard you can fit a solenoid to be able to switch between 4 and 7 psi boost?

Can anyone think of anything different needed for a rwd engine or anything I can do to make all this easier with the added space in engine bay compared to minis? (Photo of bay attached)

Just want a rough guide so I can start collecting parts

Cheers, James.

ATM nearly 18, By the time brakes and suspension have been sorted and then started building the actual engine I'll be nearly 20, not just going to stick the turbo engine in and kill myself in it haha

Steve you're getting old. so old in fact that 30 seems young!!!

Most on here had pretty poky motors in their early 20s. I had a 205gti 1.9 at 21 and a legacy turbo (200bhp) at 24. I was sensible enough by then.

I think he's being sensible. I suggest that you get a quick insurance quote. don't say you have done the work, just say what it is. should give you an idea of cost.

Not enough, all answers are hidden somewhere

no block is better than another, all are suitable assuming suitable condition

Nope, any 1275 head will do as a starting point, contact Bennross or Turbo Phil for advice on what they can do for you (in exchange for money)

no idea, as suggested others have done similar search out their build threads

.
lots of pistons are suitable for low boost setups, a quick search should link you to ones currently available

You need a 7.5 inch clutch with a modified flywheel.Peter May Engineering sell the kit but ittis not cheap.I have some used stuff lying around,pm me if I can help. Also think about the rear axle partic half shafts. If only for street use,may be ok,but look at better shafts.

'Where does the engine go?'

And the standard gearbox wont last very long.
Fitting a type 9 is an answer, but it will cost quite a bit.
A Sierra 1.6 clutch can be used on a modified flywheel and has held 140 bhp on my car OK
