I'm looking for a wide band controller with 5v output that can support two widebands. What the cheapest reliable option to me, or am I better getting two single controllers??

Cheers

Personally I would (and indeed do) use individual units. If anything goes wrong it's cheaper to fix.....

The only ones I can think of that are dual (or more) channels are the professional end of the market so are expensive if you just want a 0-5V output.

The AEM ones are most people's favourites but the electronics are built into the gauge - I assume from the way you worded it, you only want a pair of controllers to give you 0-5V and not the gauges ???

Both TechEdge (wbo2.com) and 14point7 (14point7.com) have some basic controllers which makes it very cost effective if you don't want gauges.

EDIT - corrected web address

You might want to have a look at the new Spartan controller from http://www.14point7.com/

And shipping from Canada is not usually a hassle (but Rod and others could elaborate if needed).

I ordered my two sparten controllers from 14point7 over a month ago and still no sign of them. And they have also stopped responding to my emails. Looks like I'll not be able todo back to back testing of efi vs weber 45 on the rollers friday. So if anyone wants to waste money, spend it at 14point7

Jim,

I'll see if I can get a hold of Alan to try and resolve this. I'm sorry I suggested this.

Hmmm when I was looking a good few years ago there were a few people complaining, so much so I didn't buy, I was guessing that they had sorted their act out by now, pisser !!

I assume you paid through Paypal so have you filed a claim? And if so what was Alan's response?

You seem to imply that he's keeping your money and not providing anything. I just want to make sure that you didn't lose your money even if you did waste your time.

Price might be good but on the quality side there are a lot of people who would disagree. If you only look at the display it might be ok but the analog output is often a mess.

The Innovate MTX is very good quality....but their analogue output does seem a bit odd too. Even when the output was flatlined, when reading it on the Motec, the voltage was fluctuating by up to 0.5v at times !! Although was usually around 0.2/0.3v

No idea what was going on. They are nice units...but that aspect isnt good.

The analog output on any unit has the potential of being problematic. Since it doesn't share the same ground and 5V source as the ECU, you can get a systematic or variable error depending on the setup.

At a minimum, you need to make sure to ground the two units (ECU and WBO2 controller) to the same physical location and, ideally, away from a noisy ground. The Innovate units are known for being especially sensitive to this.

I should add that this is why I offer devices that read the digital data from the WBO2 controller instead of the analog output. For the Innovate units, it can read the data over the RS232 port while the data from the SLC-OEM from 14point7 is read on the I2C bus. This digital data is then transferred to the ECU (MS2 or MS3, all variants) over the CAN bus.

This avoids any issue with ground or 5V offset and it also avoids the digital-analog-digital transformation that can be problematic. The ECU gets the actual AFR value measured by the wideband O2 controller.

In the case above, sensor ground and analogue out were paired, so it should have been good.

Ive an old FJO wideband on my car, and it is 100% faultless at all times. No voltage fluctuations.

But yes if you can read the datastream, it would be far better.

I did get my money back, however that is only after logging a complaint with paypayl, before this he stopped responding to my emails, I only got a refund back this week, and now I don't have the time to get a pair of INNOVATE LC-1 fitted before I'm doing back to back test of carb vs wet manifold EFI. Would have been interesting to see the comparison at 10k, but this will never happen now.

Sorry too hear that Jim.

I had problems with him two years ago but thought he had got his act together.

I'd lend you my two techedges for testing but I'm out of the country and won't be back in time to get them to you for this Friday.
