A few new pieces as recommended by the locals, (borrowed from my buddy of course)

I said I would never have a gun in the house when I moved here...but since pretty much everything over here will take a bite out of you or worse....

The laser sight is spot on, on the SIG once it got it set up. Surprising light, but it is a composite construction, quite similar to the "glock" but more accurate apparently.

i'm not being funny but with the AR15 assault rifle you can shoot the skin of a rice pudding a 400 yards ...less than an hour down at the range in George Bush park and my grouping was better than my buddies who has been deer hunting for years, although I was set up on the sand bags and taking my time.
I must admit I could be hooked on this.
Reminds me of shooting the double sprung Weihrauch air rifle back in the uk, same recoil, but much better affect.

Don't get me wrong I've not lost the plot, but ammo is so cheap here, you can really make a hobby out of this, I am already looking into what can be legally modify etc.

Will have to post up a few photos of the nice pump action shot guns you can get for "home defence"

Have got my eye on a nice HK (heckler and koch) as used by the sas

ah, nicely done.

Assault rifles in the house is pretty easy to get your head around -it is your house after all, but the thing that really took me time to get used to is the guys walking into walmart with their gun holstered, and buying ammo from firearms section at the back of the store... For some reason, this just leaves me feeling un-easy.

in general, don't mind the ones who buy in public.
the ones who buy in a dark lonely alley are the ones to worry about

I lived/worked in Texas back in 89 for about 4 months with wifey/child.

Despite having a great time and all the people we lived and worked with were great, I could NEVER come to terms with their gun culture.

Wifey was dragged off to "self defence" lessons (run by the local police, self defence = guns) by the wife of one of the engineers I was working with and the rest of them I was working with at the plant wanted me to come along to their gun club and shoot things....

So I turned down the permanent job offer and came back to the UK.

Sorry, but that is the main thing that is wrong with the USA IMO.

Everything else was great (I've been back many times since) but not the guns....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Sadly, there is a lot more than just the guns. How about folks losing everything and/or going bankrupt beause they can't afford to pay for their healthcare bills. How about the government basically owned by "special interest" groups. How about 60 year old male politicians telling women they can't have abortions no exceptions, no matter how heinous the reasons she became pregnant, etc. Nope, there is a lot more than just the gun culture.

For me the funniest thing about guns recently is the ramblings amonst "preppers" - these who are so convinced we have a new world order coming, that they are stocking up on rifles, pistols, ammo, everything and storing them all in their underground bunkers,,, But not stocking up on their insulin or other medications they rely on LOL. There was one recently who had crap loads of guns and ammo stored in his fortified bunker on the east coast, but failed to install a drain pump. Hurricane sandy filled his compund to the ceiling. Fail LOL.

I'm sure you're right - I haven't worked out there for twenty years but have been back many times but probably not seen the politics so much as when I was actually working there.

We do get a lot of coverage of USA politics back home (more than I ever saw of UK politics when I was in the States) so the next few days will be interesting.

Unfortunately the future of an awful lot of the rest of the world (UK included) is going to be determined by your election result....

Owning guns in the U.S. is just one of those things. Either you like guns or you don't. I whole hearted support it though. There's enough info out there to prove that not owning firearms in the home hasn't stopped any crime.

Yeh,

I was brought up around guns from an early age and respect them and there proper uses, the AR really is my buddies.

We used to go shooting on my uncles farm Sunday afternoon back in the uk, rabbits mainly to keep the numbers down,

The little buggers breed like, well, you know, rabbits lol.

I've got the week off work just now and in the midst of getting parts ordered and dropping the block and crank off at the machine shop etc, its the cleaning that takes the time I find especially when reusing stuff instead of new, pistons, removing gaskets etc.

i know TD was at a mini show in Tennesse back in December,

his signature says south park colorado, but he is taking the piss, since he moved from Ohio, down to Kentucky more recently.

We should may be find a mini show we could all meet up at ?

Cheers

It's not just the States - We have a 20 gauge in middle of suburban Surrey. Recon the sound of a gun cabinet being unlocked should put most people off being in the house if they are not invited to be there. And best of all a judge said its OK to shoot the fuckers!
