Right I have been building my mini for a while now so I thought I would start a build diary.

She started off as a right wreck the car was completely rotten sills, front end, floor pans, boot etc etc. so we started work before I passed my test she was on the road with the standard 1275 spi gay series, I did a couple of track days it it and then the mot ran out so she wanted more work doing so I took it off the road to do the work, on the trackday towards the end of the day I decided I wanted more power so, I brought a k1200 head with the ambition of doing that but it was far to much work for what I would have achieved so I sold that. Monkeys then had a b16 up for sale so I brought it and it started from there. I saved up for the subframe and that's where I am up to now:) I have quite a bit of carbon to go on the car and I am painting it matte black for a year, until I can afford to have it resprayed in yukon grey

Here's a pic from the track day

We trial fitted the engine before I sent a lot of stuff for powdercoat which I get back Tuesday

So I should probably show you what we did I between trial fitting the engine.

He made the bulkhead box from looking at pictures what a job took us ages for some reason, why is it small jobs take for ever anyway my dad work in fabrication so that's handy we cut the hole for the box and made a template, then my dad bent up a box at work which we lined up and relished we forgot to put the sides where it sits in the strengthing box section thing on the bulk head

We then set about welding it in :) can't find the pics of that Doh, so I have finished ones we also bolted the subframe to the car to see if the holes lined up on the bulkhead they did :)

We removed the subframe for powdercoating which is the only thing I got back so far :/

So while he were waiting for that we welded some strength in the bulkhead where the rear mounts bolt on, I rembered how much it used to move the floor with the a series in so we probably went abut over kill on this but its peice of mind for me I know it's strong now.

I almost forgot I have a carbon roof that we fitted when it was on the road before here are some pics:

Pre roof fitting hole cut out

And the roof sikaflexed on (that stuff is sooooo sticky I think I could stick the car to the roof with it lol.

I thought I would have a go at smoothing off my rear lights and tinting them all red here's the drying.

I think they turned out quite well :)

I also bought some seat for £65 got to love a bargain

I set about degrreasing and cleaning up my engine it took a while bet came up quite well

A coat of silver vht

So that looks better, it think I might mask my rocker cover up tomorrow and spray it like this, what do you think

i have had it painted in tweed grey. Since the last update i have had the car running and then stripped back down again to be painted, i am now building her back up for the final build :).

anyway i will let the photos do the talking:
i bought aa rad and some hoses off ebay wich i still need to make a bracket for and sort out what goes where with the hoses.

is it completly necersary to cut out the back of the headlamp bowl or can i get it to fit without?

i also bought some force racing splits for her i love them :)

we got the rear beam built up but i decided i didnt like the yellow it was to bright and stood out to much so we had to take it back to bits and have it painted black :/

we made some plates on the inner wings to bolt the carbon front on with because the corners near the scuttle stuck up, i would imagine it also adds abit of strenght, we beefed up behind the shock mount on the inner wing aswel as my previous gaz shock decided to part company along with the bracket from the inner wing at curborough lol.

last pic of the engine in the car before we took it out again

we had to make some bottom coilover brackets as i didnt have any and couldt find them anywhere with out buying the tops which i already had

the next job was to turret and tub the rear arches but i apear to of lost the photos :/ but i made a crappy tool out of a bit of wood to mark the line to cut the body for the tubs

anyway im pleaed with how they turned out so i can run the car as low as i want to now :)

and when this was dont the car went off to be painted here she is in primmer

inside stone chipped, primed and painted

carbon roof clear coated

boot lid and bonnet in colour

then the body was painted

i got my acwmotorsport plastics windows so please with these

a better picture of the roof

i got my doors built up

and this is where i have got to now rear beam is back on and the front subby bolt up aswel if all goes to plan and my release bearing arrives tomorrow i should have the engione back in in a couple of days

thats it for now

cheers Harry

Hate the roof, love the colour and the wheels, would've preferred a different engine. But most of all, loved the fact you rocked up on turbominis and refered to the a-series as a gay-series!!!

This is FORD country, on a quiet day you can hear Vauxhalls rusting.

Haha thanks, I now no longer hold the same opion after going out in matt argent and matt warrens cars I think the a series is a brilliant engine it was just the 1275 spi that was in the car previously was shit *tongue*

cool,
the trouble with a lot of Vtec conversions is they look like they have driven through Halfords, so this is a refreshing change!

Love the colour, too :)

Nice work, thats coming along nicely!

Before you refit your beam, make sure you triangulate the L brackets that hold the radius arm on. Grab the radius arm and try and flex it side to side and you'll see what I mean. :ohwel: I know its a pain as its been powder coated but it'll make it drive soo much nicer (eg in a straight line).

Thanks for the comments everyone, the roof is a tdk racing one it was £250 they look wank without clear coats on them though.

I might aswell post an update now I'm typing *tongue*

I managed to get the engine back in on Sunday and my seat and column in the week before I need a smaller wheel and a new seat aswell undecided on what to get seat wise I fancy a Cornbeau revolution like this one, http://www.corbeau-seats.com/motorsports-s...car-bucket-seat but I don't know what vision on the road will be like, if anyone knows let me know.

Next week I am going to try and sort the wiring out, so it shouldn't be long before it runs again.

Here's the pics now
My driving view excuse the shit picture

And the engine in sorry about the flakey rocker cover mines in the body shop being painted.

That's it for now

I haven't updated my thread in a very long time,

I've got a big update though and that is that the car is no longer vtec powered I have bought dev11's 1360 bottom end and i'm going to build a gt20 turbo A series. Pics and engine build to follow.

My plan is to be up and running for mitp!

Should have seen this through in my opinion... So many people just give up on engine conversions.

I've got another shell that I'm going to put the vtec in use a clubby front etc. I' will finish it one day. I'm also building a c20xe powered one with my dad too.

I tinted the lights by sanding all the lettering/markings off. And then sprayed them with some red tint spray I bought from eBay.
