So I thought I'd have a go at refurbishing my wheels myself on the cheap rather than buying new ones or getting someone to do them for me.
I ordered an alloy polishing kit on the cheap from ebay and have tried it out on just one of my wheels for now to see the effects.

This is the before pic with 40 years worth of road salt, grime and general crap all over it.

This was after the first stage of polish, a big improvement but it really highlights where the damage is where previous owner has curbed it.

This was after the final stage. I'm happy that the wheel looks a lot better, definatly not perfect but it'll do me, my car is far from perfect so I don't mind the wheels being like this (for now).
Next step will be to respray the black inner and order some new centres. If it looks pretty good then I will do the rest.

Take that valve out and finish the job ! New valves are always a good idea, anyway.

New center caps arrived but I'm worried they'll go bad like the old ones rather quickly because it just looks like a thin layer of paint straight onto the spun alloy. Any any ideas how I could stop it flaking.
Was thinking about lacquer but not sure if that would work to well, any ideas would be great guys.

looks like a decent idea oli, cheers. still just thinking of something really hard wearing to protect the stupidly thin paint on the caps tho. I reckon i could get it looking like the old one if i sneeze near it

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
