The fault appears to have been an over machined dish in the piston. The centre just cried enough. No serious damage as it happens.

Not thick enough, less than 4mm. There is no signs of det, it is purely a piston failure.

Just an observation and it is one you have probibly already made yourself, but I'd be sealing up that bulkhead better. Just think if ther was a major fuel leak over that hot turbo onto the bulkhead. You would certainly know about it! On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
