This will be a new experience for me, firstly its my first round nose, a B plate Mayfair

It will be my first full steel mini, so will require a few replacement panels and no doubt test my welding skills.

And it will also house a new engine, and to my knowledge its not been done before.. or if it has there are very few about. A vauxhall small block 1800 x18xe1 with jenvey itb's.

I bought the mini a few months back and seemed tidy enough.

Ive now got the shell stripped and found a few areas that will need attention.

This had been repaired.. with masking tape lol

And it has a nasty set of over sills. Other than that it seem very good, original and not like a patchwork quilt.

should have it up on a spit in the next day or so and the body work will begin :)

Doesn't look bad at all, you should have the welding done by the end of the weekend.

Holey crap!! I've never seen the flitch panel that bad before, and I have seen some bad minis.

Let me save you some money now and sell you the Cooper shell I'm trying to get rid of for £250. *happy* you'd save that in not having to do some of those repairs, as i'm sure that will have been plated up such that the Titanic would have been jelous.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Sprocket let's hope that's as bad as it gets haha.

Have a few heritage panels to fit, the fitch / a-panel and wing being the biggest!

Also have the outer wings, sills and need a front panel.. Fingers crossed that's it.

Had a few hours in the garage this afternoon so thought i would tackle the oversills.

As expected the old ones were underneath, The nearside original sill was in a bad way the offside only had a few holes - all the floors and inner sills are solid.

will fit the new sills once the shell has been blasted.

Next on the list is to remove the front end and nearside inner fitch.

Is a vauxhall small block like chevy small block v8? I looked at putting in a LS"x" motor in mine but just couldn't see where i would find the room for it unless it was mid engined

nope sorry to disappoint, vauxhall small block comes in 3 flavours a 1400 a 1600 and an 1800. The big block starts at 1800 and above.

those GM v8's are huge in comparison, like you said rear / mid engine only i guess.

Looking forward to watching this develop, will it all squeeze under a standard roundnose?

I know the 1600 16v fits.. It's the 1800 head that could cause me some issues, but I will make it all fit :)

with things running very tight you can get the red top lump in a standard length round nose (just) so im sure you will be fine

It's not the overall size that concerns me it's the angle of the inlet. Will find out soon enough :)

not sure about the similarity of these vauxhall engines but there was a guy in Glasgow a good few years ago running an old cavalier SRI 1.8 8v in his round nose.

I think that's a big block - mine has come from a newer Zafira.

Bit more body chopping done today. About halfway through taking the nearside fitch and inner wing off, i can save the other side so thats a bonus as its an original panel.

Need some more cutting discs and another spot weld bit..

Seems to be going well at the moment, should be able to book it in for blasting soon.

Did think about a removable front.. Not sure I will ba able to get the finish I'm after though if I do.

Would make working on the engine loads easier though!
