Awright guys? Just floating round the usual websites, went onto med. Theyv'e brought out some "EXTREME"
TITANIUM CON RODS. £3,650.....They look nice but i dont think many of us could justify that type of money.
Think ill stick with my sc rods.

leeds/wakefield.

If a TI crank cost £100 it would be too much as it would lasy about 100 revolutions

Complete over kill in my opinion. You could by a Arrow forged crank, rods and omega pistons for that money easily!

Anyone on here snapped a forged steel rod?

A couple of years ago farndon cranks said theyd do a set for 500 quid a rod.. it wasnt a serious question at the time... but now you mention it...

Surely strength isnt the game here.. the huge loss in weight on something thats moving mad fast has gotta be the main feature of awesomeness

a friend of mine has some ti con rods that are un-machined. apparently BMC made them as a one off and never machined them. and why would a ti crank not work?

leeds/wakefield.

Firstly it wouldn't be striff enough and secomdly its is a bad [ useless] bearing material,

BMC did make some sets of TI rods all will be have been out of life 30 years ago,

They're doing it for the weight saving not strength.

I'm obviously completely wrong in thinking a forged steel arrow rod is stronger than a standard one then. And that itd be stronger than standard? Yes they are also lighter but is the extra money worth the extra weight saving over a lightened standard rod if it's just for a weight?

You don't buy a £900 forged steel rod just for its lightness alone. Same goes for a Ti rod.

Are the benefits of the Ti rod really worth 3x the price of a top notch forged steel one is the big question.

Forged rods are stronger than standard ones, no one said they weren't.

Ti rods will be of a similar strength to forged steel ones but being 30% lighter they'll unleash more power from the engine.

Wether or not they're worth it is entirely up the customer. If your race regs allow for them and someone else is running them and getting a good power increase it might be worth buying a set for yourself.

Thought you just said they were for weight saving not for strength that's all.

Can think of a lot better things to spend £3500 on.

leeds/wakefield.

I know of one autograss mini racer who has a set of TI rods in his shortstroke

if you can afford them i see no reason not to use them,

i fancy having a go at making a set for myself, but setting up would be the killer in time and fixtures

You could make your rods out or unobtainium, but they'll never make you a single bhp.

It's all about weight. Standard rods are pretty indestructable at moderate rpm, as long as you fit ARPs.

I'm not sure that oakley would licence it to you and being rubbery I'm not sure it would make a good rod?
