I was out for a quick blast today.

Low boost (15psi), third gear, bootfull. All felt ok... Slowed down, into second. Fine.

Back into third and it's rattling and clunking. Meh.

Dropped the oil, expecting it to be full of shrapnel, but there's just a few small wafers of aluminium. As if a thread has been stripped...

I can only assume that the teeth are nesting inside the box somewhere. Not bad for a MiniSport gearset *wink*

I just wish it had happened at the end of last year so I could rebuild it over the winter.

Oh well, it's lasted for around 3000 miles in my car and managed 3000 in Carl's (All pure abuse I'll add).

Fuck yeah! I forgot about that.

I'm pretty certain that 3 is missing teeth. So it'll need pulling, but it'll be nice to have a look first.

hmm, ive got a minisport box and it did see some abuse before i owned it and ive had it fitted for some 10k miles. recently been running 14psi through it for 3k miles and its fine except the fact that i crunched it at pod last year and had to have it towed off *tongue*

Mines been used at 20+ psi for the majority of its life. I know Carl's was 169 hp on 20psi and I've been pushing over 200.

Both of us have used it on the strip plenty of times too.

Hmm it seems to be in one piece. Maybe a bearing has let go? I'll find out Sunday when I pull it apart.

Is it wrong to feel disappointed?

Good work, Another Laygear bites the dust!

My gearbox is not sounding too healthy, I just hope it lasts the season.

I'll have to check the receipts I've got at home. I'm sure it's a minisport gearset.

This is so common on here, it should be called the TM failure.

if it is its a copy of the old ST gearset so the minispares ST bits should interchange, but not the clubman bits.

Mine is the Minispares ST set but for the remote box.

I'd change the gear that meshes with the fucked one though...

Had the box got any louder than usually? I have a spare lay gear but it's for the clubman set!

It is a minisport one.

I won't buy it till we've dismantled it Sunday. Then we can see what else I need to order too.

Looking at the date on the receipt, this was built nearly 6 Years ago. It's not done bad eh.

Star mag, the box sounded no different to normal until the graunchy noise from 3rd.

It felt like it was miss firing in the other gears after the tooth broke free.

Joe, I don't suppose you've got a primary gear oil seal fitting tool? Mines been leaking loads. The thrower has saved the clutch plate.

On the way back from avon last year i was dissappointed i hadn't buggered up my drop gears, but relieved it wasn't at the same time.
More tinkering time though!

Yup, good excuse to upgrade/fix a few bits.

Second has been a bitch to select at high revs. To the point that I kept missing it last year. That's got to save a bit of time on the strip.

It was cruchy going down into second too.

It needed a look at anyway, I've been on borrowed time for a while.
