New dash

Been making some changes over winter for this year, some mechanical and some aesthetics, the first was a new dash that I started ages ago but finally got my arse into gear to finish.

My old dash was a mdf plank with gauges in shite places particularly my wideband and boost gauge,I had a microdynamics boost gauge I wanted to use and I wanted to try and get a pair of period speakers up front, they were a few quid nos from and autojumble



I wanted to try and do something a bit different 60s/70s style a bit like the old radford/wp style dashes with a wooden insert, and I was too tight to buy any of the abs dashes.

So started with a dash from a similar era, much chopping, fibreglassing,plywood,crazy foam and sanding ect ect got me a base dash which I did have an attempt at flocking with the kit from frost. Needless to say this was a disaster so much more sanding and I went for a coat of plastic bumper texture paint with gloss black ontop.




laquered wood veneer insert on alu sheet backing, 'spare' oak veneer from work done with a pine stain and 4 coats rattle can laquer, its a bit darker than in the pics




And all assembled with my gauges ect



And a trial fit some wiring changes left to do







The radio is a fake, got an I pod amp behind the dash with a socket underneath, and behind the radio facia is a sneaky iat gauge



I wasnt too sure at first but overall im getting round to being quite pleased with it

i like it, the wood finish looks very retro.

looks pretty damn tidy, its got an OE feel to it from the other austin/BL models.

Thanks very much thats the look i was going for, this is the original dash, should be easy but there is a big bag of nowt up for grabs if anyone guesses where its from!
