I need to take a green spring with me to the rolling road on the 23rd. I live fairly close to Somerford do I asked if they can get one - they have gotten everything else I've ever asked.

The lady has asked of I have a ball bearing suction chamber type hif44??

WTF is that? I have no idea if I do. Can some shed some light on it please??!

some of the carbs have a ball bearing sleeve thingy between the piston and the chamber. IIRC

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

If you dismantle the piston/damper mechanism, you'll see a plastic sleeve with bearings in.

I'm pretty sure that all HIF44's have this, but could be wrong. All of mine certainly have.

EDIT: Too slow... what he said.

So their in the end of the bit that goes in the hole that screws in the top?!

Part of the actual piston that comes out of the oil hole?

I took it apart earlier and didn't notice and bearings. But I might have looked in the wrong place!!!

Thanks for all the replies

With the damper plunger removed, If you push the piston in to it's full extent you will see a small clip on the the end of the dampers oil chamber thing. (Don't squirt oil in your eye).

Remove this and pull the piston from the dashpot.

The outside of the oil chamber thing runs inside a cylinder in the dashpot. Between these is where the bearing race lives.

The terminology above will be utterly terrible, but it should give you an idea.

Germini, black forrest

The non-ball bearing type looks like the one on HS carbs... Tiny, flat top screw; ball bearing type is the 'fat' chunky type :)

Very strange - my piston just comes out of the dash pot....
I'll have another look in a minute...

I certainly have ball bearings!!

They are at the lower inner section of the dash pot that the piston slides into when load increases.

Thanks for the replies, and helping me understand!!

You'll be missing the clip. It doesn't affect the operation on the carb, just keeps stuff together when you remove it.
