The last couple of engines I've built over the last few weeks have been pressure fed - thought you guys may be interested in the dyno's. Both engines are 1312's the non intercooled version is running lots of stock parts, stock head, LT 254° cams, road exh manifold, 10.2:1 comp, max boost was 4.5 psi at 6.5k. The sportier one is running RS 284° cams, 10:1 comp, ported head, race exh manifold 14psi at 7k, this one is running 6 inch rods and custom forged pistons as well. The conversion kit and charger is the same for both, pulley size altered to achieve boost/power targets.

Blimey not a bad result at all!

Im guessing these are on your supercharger setups?

Hi John, how do you think his would translate on a short stoke big bore 73.5mm bore 59.9mm stroke 1000cc ? thanks

Very well, a typical RS cammed twink runs 140/145hp at 7k, this has piled another 100hp on that total at 1bar. For a short stroke I'd rev it harder and make slightly less boost, I'd also run our 296 deg cams as these charged engines love the cams like a hot n/a.

If charge temps were kept reasonable would running 20psi on 9.5:1 compression be out the question on these heads, of course assuming charge temps are kept reasonable? There seems to be some fairly high comp ratios going on here.

Ok the reason I ask is not just speculative

Once I obtain a south african crank and use a set of your long rods, the only barrier to doing a short stroke turbo is off the shelf piston availabilty. If a set of the forged omega lightweights were dished out a little then I could have a bottom end that could be revved very hard.

I would prefer to use standard mini head gaskets but the final option would be to use one of the 6cc ones you advertised.

The plan is 70.2mm crank +60 forged omega lightweights dished out from 6 to 9cc.

so compression as follows

Swept volume of 287.4cc

9cc pistons
18cc in the head
3.8cc head gasket
ring land 1cc
piston to deck 1cc
cut outs 1cc
giving 33.8

Therefore providing a 9.5:1

With a gt17 pumping 20psi into this lot I think I'd have a cracking little engine.

intresting. looks good power. Are the cams low overlap jobs?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

I wouldn't run 20psi on a 9.5:1comp ratio, but then again I don't think you would need to run that much boost if you are going to cam the motor to rev it hard and make big numbers.

Nope, as mentioned these motors are cam monsters like hot n/a motors, we did start with very low overlap but soon swung back to n/a spec cam timing

Thats easy then, start with the 3.8cc gasket, if 15psi doesn't deliver the goods then change it for the thicker one and up the boost. I have a k1100lt head and a k1200rs heads to to raid cams from so that covers that base.

Following our chat at bingley I decided against doing more to my current engine as it'll never be fast enough, I need to start with a clean sheet of paper.

I'll obtain a crank and go from there.

Thats very intresting, the general info you read is the cam must have a low overlap to work. maybe thats the difference between twin cam and 5 port?

The power does look great.

true for a supercharger but for a GT20 turbo the overlap on the cams would affect the dynamic compression ratio and you'd loose a lot of low end even with a smaller turbo and the ignition advanced

Youd be better off with a std exhaust with a 296 inlet and wind the boost up, as long as you can keep the inlet temps low enough

Revving hard isnt always the answer too, you gain power but loose torque

Turbo'ing the rover k series since 2010 *wink*

John does this just apply to the supercharger setup or turbo aswell? Ive found that mine seems to take pretty much any boost ive thrown at it. The most ive run is 35psi for a short spell but generally I run 25psi on a 9.0:1 CR. Ive been thinking of upping the CR and keeping the same boost (25psi) to keep inlet temps down but get the power up. :)

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
