ok i'm planning a 998 turbo engine i have a few good blocks and head to play with.

i've been reading about and i keep finding different answers, would i need to make bulkhead alterations.

ive see some with the changes some with out.

i really don;t want to cut my mini up as it completely restored and don;t want too.

planning using a standard metro manifold. if that helps.

if there is a manifold i can buy to not cut the bulk head please say.

thanks very much for any help.

i'm new to this forum.

You'll need to use the Mirage Motorsport manifolds, or one of Mattys on here, if you want to avoid cutting the bulkhead. Any conversion using the Metro manifold will require bulkhead work.

Yep, as said, you need a specialist manifold to clear the bulkhead.

To be honest, £350 is a reasonable price for what is a hand-made bespoke item.

There is a third option. and that is to put the turbo over the clutch. This can be achieved by making a 'J' pipe from the Metro manifold. I've thought about this many times, but always forked out for a bespoke manifold.

Better to save your pennies and do it properly than cut the shell IMO.

You can just make your own if you want. Paul s has lots of flanges on the shelf, then just a couple of bends and some welding, bobs your knob.

Near Paris - France

Twin J pipe from a SPi exhaust is my plan.

You can get some SPi downpipes with the flex fooked for next to nothing.

After that, if you can weld / have a welder and are ready to build it yourself, you can save some£££ here but the downpipe and engine steady are an other story I have not been investigating yet ...

i've all ready made one top adjustable engine steady and bought a ultimate engine steady.
so that will help.
i guess with the spi one your cutting of the current connecto and welding on a turbo flange.

You don't need a pipe bender, just buy the bends. You can get the correct wall thcknes that way.

so i would need one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T2-TURBO-FLANGE-...9#ht_500wt_1183
and one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLASSIC-MINI-MAY...5#ht_500wt_1415
to make my own manifold and this would fit without touching the bulkhead. i guessing i could only fit a t2 due to the size and lack of room

I use these:

The 1" is plenty big enough.

The nominal size of 1" is 28mm bore.

I'm getting 120hp without issues from my 998 turbo using 1".

Bigger is not better.

As Paul says. 1" for the fannymould, but from the turbo outlet and the rest of the exhaust go for 2".

There are a few other options than a T2. Look at the GT1548 which is a mor emodern version.

Also the IHI RHF3 and RHF4 are a nice size. If you are making your own manifold, why limit your self to an old T2?

They're all GT15 as far as I can tell. Which is good.
