Some of you may have noticed the "blue blobule" around, both on here and at various drag meets.

(That,s Roberts description of my 1959 Austin A35)

In A35 circles there has been a surge of interest in the van version of the A35 and I seem to have caught the fever too, so I bought (for (£100 !) a van. It was last on the road in 1978.

It had no engine or gearbox, or front suspension, so I had to jury rig something to get it home

I have made a start, but it is very rusty and it will take me many months to get it up to paint

A few shots of progress so far

As well as the welding I have sourced and prepared brakes and suspension and an engine, which will be my spare, with a Benross head, Kent 266 and, of course, another GT1752.

I am working on a 5 speed conversion, this time with a BMW gearbox.

More pics and details at irregular intervals, as I make progress, or otherwise.

Nope, its going to be another Speedwell Blue vehicle, mesh grille, twin spots, a real clone of the car.

As far as I am aware there has never been a Speedwell Blue van and certainly never a turbocharged one.

Looking good Dave.

£100 is a bargain too.

Mate of mine in Bristol has just sold his black A35 saloon that he installed a Fiat Mirafiori Twin Cam engine into along with Sprite suspension.

Bloody thing used to scare the shit outta me.

Whats the full spec or is that a hush hush from the missus at the mo ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

No progress yet, Matt, as I,m concentrating on the welding and I need a piece of 8mm steel plate 400mm square to start with -anyone ?

Richard, the spec will be broadly that of "TMT" but with lots of sound insulation and I,ll probably stay sane on the boost, as I want Wendy to be able to drive it.

This is going to be a long haul, as the only deadlines I have set myself is to have the welding done by Easter and the body in paint by September.

I hope to be able to show it by May/June next year, remember, I am officially the oldest TM member !

Some progress despite the cold (three layers, two pairs of tracksuit trousers and a stoic outlook)

outer wheelarch repair section for the inner wheelarch

OS rear corner - all had to be made/formed in situ and overhead welded.

Outer OS corner welded on and plodged over, for the time being

BMW gearbox offered up to the bare block(kindly lent to me by Matty) as a first step. Although it looks massive, it is actually shorter and much lighter than the Ford Type9 that I have in TMT.

Many thanks to bennyy and Craigie-B who, between them, supplied and transported a Benross head from deepest Yorkshire to the sunny south for me.

Been too cold to do much recently, but I have had a look at the drivers A post - more rot to deal with.
