About four years ago i brought this, a 1971 Tax exempt Morris Mini. Another unfinished project ( i never learn). I got it with the idea of using it every day to potter about in, the last owner didnt have a clue and just chucked money at it. With a list of all the right bits i just had to get them all working!

How it looked When i first got it, excuse the poor pictures

The so called 'new' floor panels he had paid a fortune to be fitted where only tacked in then finished off with a blob of silicone :affraid: Owning mini's before we knew where to look, it needed new inner and outer sills and subframe mounts as they looked like this

Not being to shy with a grinder i got straight to it welding new panels in, unfortunately i dont have any finished pictures.

Next was to sort the interior, after getting electric shocks off bulldog clips that held the wires together :affraid: i made a new dash

It didnt take long for me to get bored of this so i made another

With that being done it was time to sort the engine out, at this time not knowing a great deal about turbo A-series it went off to Avonbar, a week later it came back running :bounce:
With a bit more knowledge and confidence only running it standard just wasnt enough, with mini_Steve also being a mini nut we decided to start tinkering. The ignition system just wasnt reliable enough so it was upgraded to Megajolt ECU which steve kindly built for me.

I turned down the bottom pully to hold the trigger wheel

I replicated a bracket from a friend to hold the trigger wheel sensor, gave it a little polish.

It was all running sweet but something was missing?........more BOOST :o standard 7psi just wasnt enough, but without running an intercooler i didnt want to raise it....having just learnt how to ally weld and having an s14 intercooler laying about it only seemed right to chop it up, weld ally tanks and put some bends on it

job done, with a new plenum i made to be able to run an intercooler it was all fitted, after playing with the boost and 3 headgaskets later 12psi seemed enough *happy*

In 2005 i promised myself i would of never buy or go in another mini after being in an accident and seeing how they fold up, I was out of work for 10months due to my knee not being able to support myself

It was time to put a cage in it , Dad got on the phone to someone we used to work with who now works at Caged to get the bits bent, then it was just down to me to weld it it all in. I cut the rear seat down and removed the pockets to make life easyer

Now with all the cage in and not liking the last dash i had made it was time to make a new one that was subtle and made a feature of the cage, also making the toggle switches like the new mini's.

And this is how it is now, just needing the body work sorting. Notice the side exit exhaust i made up *happy*

A sneaky little mod a made, and yes it will be a wing mirror!

And for the oil cooler hidden behind the number plate

solid subframe mounts

Il try to keep this updated as much as i can!

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

Crikey, that crash looked pretty horrendous.

Some great skills though, well done on the new dash and novel use of the wing mirror! Look forward to seeing other "developments"...

Nice mini, shame about the crash though.

I'm also going to gusset up my rollcage having seen that work of art!

I like the switches on the lower dash rail. Lots of nice custom touches on that car.

I Love that side exit, almost enough to convince me not to put my twin DTM on and get something similar to yours - we will see *happy*

Gorgeous none the less

Thanks for all the comments! The dash and cage did take alot of time and patience....theres so many 1off bits on it like the exhaust, its still got a silencer up in the tunnel so its not to loud and its all TIG'd stainless. Next on the list is to side mount the turbo, New front end and boot floor....oh and tub the arches. Ill try and take as many piccys as i can, Fingers crossed it will make it to some shows this year *happy*
