Almost A year ago Now I went out to watch a Customer of Mine compete in A round of the Irish Auto-testing Championship, at the the time I sponsored him a 2 Speed Auto Test transmission.

When I walked away from the event that evening I got to thinking I could build him a real car to compete in,

So with out much hesitation I phone him up and told him to bring me a shell and I would get started.

At first it started out like all projects a nice simple build basically re shell his original car into something a bit lighter and in better condition but as with all my projects that not the way it worked out.

this arrived in my workshop

With in a week we had started some radical body modification

after about 5 weeks day on day off we managed to cut ever bit of spare or non-essential metal from the shell at this point one person could easily lift the shell completely off the ground.

At this point the car was ready to head off for blasting and paint this was done by a top class bloke in Kilkenny.

The shell arrived back to my workshop in the early Summer and we jumped straight back into it

we built up and fitted our custom Sub-frame,

Fitted Coursa B Power steering

a funny looking bucket seat, It was at this point Strange things began to happen

at this point things got a bit sensitive and there is a shortage of photos I'm sure most of you can work out why but safe as to say not much more went into be back end.

a few more weeks passed and we managed to get through all the crapy stuff like making and fitting windows, fitting doors extra and it looked like this :)

and then we fitted the motor

which is a Custom HRE Built Item spec is something on the lines of:

1430 botom end
Auto test cam near 248deg duration
HRE autotest Cylinder head
HRE 2 Speed Gbox
Custom Flywheel
SC Fuel Injection
Custom Exhaust
ATB Differential

after a good bit more fiddling we managed to put the final touches to the car and got it out to its first event in Cork and it looked like this

and here is a link to two little videos of her in full action Yesterday at a round of the TDC AT championship
http://youtu.be/DATmv547azA

http://youtu.be/PNk52NUfmRw

Any one want to hazard a guess as to its final Weight ??

Yes Gavin, If you look in one of the photos above you can see that there is to H frames going between the heel board and the cross member these in turn inter connect into plates in the cross member to effectivly make the heel board and cross member one unite the H frames are made from 4mm wall alloy tube and seem to be holding up to the job very well, on the scales it works out that upwards of 85% of the weight of the car is on the front Two wheels this way.

We came Second over all Will unfortunately Damien Over cooked it on two throws and got 5, 5 second penalty which left us second other wise we would have one by 5 seconds !

Great looking car! Suspension looks pretty special how is it in use? Is the two speed box like normal with some gears taken out? :)

Thanks Star Mag were very proud of it our selves,
The box is really quite trick to be honest it does use some of the original gears all be it heavily modified, we manufacture our own selector forks and move the gears around to allow 1st to be where 3rd would be on a standard H pattern box and R to be where 4th would have been. We also modify R to be much more like a Dog gear with a separate dog engagement as apposed to the original Crash gear arrangement. and we lighten the hell out of the casing and remaining gear cluster.
