another super budget build !(please refrain from any suggestions that involve spending money!*happy* )

so , having found some bits at the scrap yard ,and autojumbles ,i realized i have nearly enough bits to make a high rpm 5 port ,a bit more extreme than my mildly tuned 42 mpg 247 bhp 5 port i have now .and i can put it on the 16v gearbox and play with it in the hybrid car .

so , i have a plus 20 block from a allegro i think

found in the mud at the scrappy ,

and i found a manky looking set of pistons at an autojumble for 20 quid,,that actually came up quite well,,and turned out to be richard longman forged omega offset dish ones:):) ,and +20 too !*happy*

cleaned up well...

and the block was ok too..

bit of a hone

some water damage but hey ,7 thou bore clearance is fine eh *surprised* good for high rev low drag (he tells himself)

thats the progress so far , i have some arp rod bolts thanks to nic and joe .and a some high poundage springs for the head oh and some inlet valves from andy bellers .

i need to get a set of exhausts ,but might make these from some old stainless inlets .
i have a unleaded head i can port out to my trap head design ,but a bit more extreme than the lower rpm engine ...and i have an old td05 16g off a subaru that might just work ....

should be fun ,, ,this will run around 9.5:1 cr ,and my own cam design ,and water injection if needed .time will tell , not expecting very fast progress ,but ill chip away at it when i can ,and wanted a record on here of it all ,,

oh oh , may try the trionic t7 on it ,or i have a blow through dellorto to use to .

regards
robert.:)

Impressive job on cleaning up those pistons, how long did that take and how did you clean them?

hi chris , i cleaned the deck with a block and some 80 grit . the honing i did with a 3 legged hone with 3 inch stones in it ,and a electric drill .

hi jim , pistonwise i used 240 grit on the crowns ,and then wd40 and green scotchbright on the whole thing ,then solvol autosol .

yup the pistons were a bit of a bargain lol, the chap had a big tray with about 12 pistons in and a big sign saying 1380cast omegas 50 quid for the lot ,and they were all a bit bashed about ,then i found one that i could see was a forging *surprised*,and then found 4 more ! *surprised**surprised*, and they had rings , so i went up to the chap and waved them vaguely under his nose and said 20 quid ? and he said yes ....i paid and i ran for it !!:)

I shall be watching this with interest. First NOS-less 300hp 5 port ???

I have a complete set of mains and big end shells, in VP2, standard size.

The mains are the A+ solid bootom half type so will need the cap slotting.

Just did a few thousand miles in the 1275 before the swarf incident.

Yours if you want them.

yes please paul .thank you ,very handy and good timing .

i also should add to the list of parts i have so far ..
i have a set of forged 1.5 rockers from richard ,
and a 4 pin diff from neil,so i can test in 4th ,and run a heli box, unless i can find the other straight cut gears to go with my ms layshaft i got from johnk.

brett ,cam will be similar to the softer engine ,but with more timing *wink*

at the moment im thinknig of using a stock a + crank and rods ,and hoping the lighter pistons will let it work and not ventilate !

not sure about the better material allegro rods ,en16 instead of 15 , but a lot of work to get as light .

My last lump was way more than 7 thou clearance and was ok.

soo you gonna use that headgasket again?

also make sure you run a stone round the hole above the centre main.

''nice, looks like an old goldseal engine. has the crank from it been ground?''

it IS a gold seal engine moley ,crank is good on the big ends ,but very unwell on the mains , i think i have a good crank out of the auto engine i got from the hybrid car ,so ill check that out .
