After the problems with Miglia Turbo at the rolling road session just before MitP we decided to book a day at SP at one of their "Peak Performance - Test & Tune" days.

The idea is that there is a limited number of 100 cars, so you should be able to get plenty of runs in. So we turned up this morning to find VW Action day still in full swing from yesterday. The place was heaving.

As soon as we got there it started to drizzle, so after a 10:00am start the track closed about 10:10am. We were just taking the car to the strip when the track was shut. So we went for a walk.

Anyway, after an hour or so the track re-opened and off we went again.

Bearing in mind that this was supposed to be a substitute for a rolling road session, Sturgeo was under strict instructions... limit revs... short shift... get into fourth and floor the throttle:

A number of minor issues as you would expect but he crossed the line at 62mph, bouncing on the overboost protection that was a little conservatively set at 0.8bar/12psi, effectively limiting revs to 4k.

Fueling was safe up to 4k, boost was coming in well, wheels were spinning with the torque in 1st and second. Some useful data from the laptop.

Then:

The heavens opened and that was it for the day. Just a single run :( We sat around for an hour or so, but it just got worse.

Another small step in the right direction but frustratingly small.
Hopefully we will get a free pass for the next session.

How irritating!

At least you didn't get chance to break anything Paul.

Thats a bummer. I did most of my tuning at a private day at pod this year. Very good as you can get absolutely loads of runs in.

Did you see how the R5 went I know he is chasing to get into the tens.

Same here. Got absolutely soaked loading the car back on the trailer.

By the time we had sat through the huge queue of VWs to get out and the 8 miles trip home, the sun was shining *angry*

Got some useful data of the laptop to work with for next time. The ECU even knows what gear it is in, although it did think he was doing 210mph :) Factor that by the FD ratio and you get the right answer, so hopefully just a setup issue.
