ok guys,

i have been away for some time but have found the time to resume my turbo project

my gearbox is now built and i have started stripping out the donor car for the custom cages historic rollcage to be fitted

i am fitting a carbon fibre front and roof and also a carbon fibre piece in the boot.

the rear parcel shelf and the rear seat panel have been cut away earlier for installation of speakers by the previous owner. so i am now thinking about cutting away the mayor part of the rear seat and parcel shelf to save weight... any tips on this??? also other weight saving tips will be greatly appreciated

You can remove it, but you'll need to put some strength back in. A bar across the top and across the arches covered ina sheet of ally would do it.

I've heard people say that your car will flex like a bugger if you remove it and crack to pieces. But this never afflicted the estates and vans abd their rear end had even less tortional stiffness.

i suppose so i bought the bodyshell that way, i am seriously considering cutting out the rear parcel and rear seat and replace them with some square metal bars and alloy plate as i am concerned about the structural rigidity of the shell if i cut everything out without extra bracing... does anyone have any experience in this, pictures?

Intresting no central oil pickup and reason. Just I wasn't sure about which one to fit. Just concerned about the quality of new parts these days. I've nevere seem to have a problem with the original one in the current engine.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Can you fit one without removing the gears again?

ok guys,

it's been very long since i've been working on the mini again sadly
due to work, health, rebuilding the house, wedding plans with the missus I had to pause this project for a while.

I have setup a new company in Belgium renting out veedub campers and also other classics.

For this I have been working on vw busses more lately. I also found a mini van restauration project and a portugese mini moke in very good condition.

The moke is almost ready for mot and i am hoping to get it prepared for rental by next summer.
The mini van is basically a bare shell, this has been stored until further notice.

right the mini shell, I have now finished all welding to the body, and a friend of mine (who is a professional welder) is now installing the rollcage. In this way i can get an official certificate that the thing is welded up according to standards. The plan is to install the rollcage, and then begin further weight reduction to retain shell strenght...once the cage is in i will sandblast the body and start on the body prep for paint.

now the body is not in my garage for the moment it is also a good time for me to clean up my garage and make some room for the cars i bought, now everything is full and no more space to do some work on the cars.

and played around with my drill, did i overdo it?!

next up is front suspension...

You know with that starter you can get rid of the lump on the wok all together. Will probably save you ore weight than all the holes put together lol

Cage looks pretty serious too..
