Hi guys,

Following a fair bit of interest I am now selling complete bucket seat mounting kits. To be honest you could fit 99% of seats with these, not just buckets, but they do need welding in.

I am working on bolt in versions but they would not be suitable for motorsport use.

Anyway here's a couple of pics:

The kit for 1 seat includes:

4x spreader plates, 80x100mm, 3mm thick
2x round CDS tubes, 600mm long, 25.4mm diameter, 2.8mm wall
4x mounting brackets, laser cut from 3mm mild steel, a good 40mm lateral movement, custom made deep square M8 nuts floating in welded channel

The items will need trimming and flat plates forming to fit, I can fold the ones for the sills to save you some work if required, the ones which weld to the tunnel will need to be bent to shape which can be done in a good vice.

Price is £35 plus postage for 1 set (for 1 seat), postage is £8 but free on more than one kit, for UK addresses.

I can make these (and almost anything) to whatever spec is required, now using CDS tube and 3mm steel, along with superior square nuts which reduce any chance of "pull up".

Alloy side mounts now available too- details on 2nd page of this thread :)

Any questions welcome!

Thanks,
TC

They do look nicely made but Ive seen larger captive nuts than those pull through even 2mm thick steel. Id say they need looking at

I seriously doubt it!

Paul how do you mean? They are 13mm across flats, and the holes are 8.5mm wide, as well as being strengthened by the folded sides and channel welded on underneath, plus the steel is 2.5mm thick. Not retaliating but interested!

Dont think Im putting them down, as said, they are nicely made, just an observation.
On VW challenge cars, which I repair a few of after racing incidents Ive seen the captive nuts which are around 15-16mm af pull through the slot which is around 8-9mm and made of 2-2.5mm steel.
Plus I spent 18 years fabricating and panel beating at aston Martin where the old V8 model used to pull the 5/16"unf (1/2"af) nuts through the 21/64" round hole in 14swg/2mm steel mounting just through normal use

I seriously doubt it!

Do you think it could be where people use a bigger hole in the bracket they are bolting down to these and don't support the sides of the slot at all, which lets them pull up as they tighten the bolt? If you see what I mean...

I would think its purely down to the massive loads that go through the seats - particularly a very supportive racing seat that holds the body snugly. As your body tries to move with centrifugal force round a corner I bet these mounts have to put up with 100+kg of force which is all applied to the metal around the hole.
If the nut is 13mm af and the slot is 8.5mm then there is only 2.25mm of the steel bracket on each side of each nut that takes the force of that 100kg (dependant on driver weight and cornering speed ofcourse).
Im open to be proved wrong, just my thoughts and Im certainly not trying to put people off purchasing these

I seriously doubt it!

EDIT, just another thought, the steel is softened a bit by the welding

I seriously doubt it!

I'd be interested in 1 bolt in one for the passenger side. *smiley*

Looks like the simplest solution/prevention could be to use a larger hex bar 16-18mm kind of size then tap them out M8. *oh well*

I've got a 4 jaw chuck, but its still a complete pain as you have to undo 2 jaws every time and 4 jaw chucks don't self centre like 3 jaws do.

I'm taking delivery of a CNC mill next week so I may be able to bang them out on that from flat bar.

I'm possibly interested in a pair.

Have you got a pic from another angle so i can see if it'll fit with my roll cage?

Sure do, before I welded the brackets on though, doing it again I'd more the rear bar back just behind the belt mounts, but I can't advise on where you mount them as we're all different.

Just to say I have modified these now- not due to any problems but I am now using square nuts I have had custom made which provide a much bigger area under the bracket, and the brackets themselves are now 3mm thick instead of the 2.5mm old versions, and the 2mm that some other people supply.

Also I am only using CDS tube now, it is slightly more expensive but worth the difference in my opinion.

Regards,
TC.
